Only asking for the reason of increasing the minutes played of some players and having bench players actually get into the game.
What do you think are some of the pros and cons of this idea?

Games can already be too long. It throws historical statistics out of perspective even with the difference in eras. Just hell no. It wouldn’t make sense. The NBA game is already longer than every other iteration of the sport

It would lead to a lot more load management. I don't think anyone wants to see teams start making or missing the playoffs over the quality of a team's 3rd string.

Stars already sit out all the time to "load manage". This would make it even worse.
Tio, are you just... stuck on opposite day nowadays?

48 is more than enough.

This is an idea so ridiculously bad it almost sounds like a trolling suggestion.

There are no pros to this
Average NBA games are about 2.5 hours. Add another 12 minutes to the 48 minute clock and games will easily exceed 3 hours. No one is going to sit through entire games especially the iPad/TikTok generation of kids who have low attention spans.
Players will be getting injured more often too. A total of 82 60-minute games is the same as roughly 102 48-minute games.

Cut it down to 40

Cut it down to 40
Cut it down to 40?? Yikes. I mean, I can see that with expanding the league and adding more teams and maybe cutting rosters down to 10-12 players. But to have 15 players on the roster and cutting it down to 40?? Eeek.

No just put a limit on players. No one can play more than 36 minutes. So you can play three quarters. Now everyone can play. 9, 10, 11 and 12 man getting some run finally.
May the best team win!

From the perspective of organizations needing to put together good teams top to bottom in order to compete, instead of just being top heavy with a few superstars, I can see the appeal.
On the flip side, the further down the bench you go, the less time youre spending (proportionally) watching the best of the best.
It just depends on what you value I guess.
Anyway the only thing that will determine whether any ideas like these happen or not will be whether it increases profits. It'll have nothing to do with the quality or integrity of the game or league.

If this happened you'd have to decrease the number of games significantly for anyone other than diehards to care to spend 3+ hours watching a regular season basketball game on a Tuesday.

Question for you guys. Doesn't a longer game solve the load management issues the fans have against the NBA? If a star player plays 25 minutes a game, then wouldn't this translate to perhaps 35 minutes a game in a 60-minute game? Or do you think it would be the same?

one of the things basketball has over football and most baseball games is they are shorter. No one wants longer games

I would make a joke about applying Reaganomics to basketball but being fair Reaganomics makes a lot more sense than this shit.

the issue with load management isnt paying limited minutes but sitting out games. lmao. this would lead to even more of that.

A 96 game season would solve this surely.

I genuinely think league should reduce the game amount. Shortening the length of games might be too radical but a shorter season would make each game mean more therefore less load management.

Very conservative of you, OP. :kobe:
But no. They should never increase the chance of LeBron's scoring record being broken.

Decrease it to 40 and make it so players are only allowed to enter the game twice, so a starter can be subbed for once. This is only slightly crazier than it sounds.

:facepalm
It's like you want to enhance the chances of players getting injured if this ever becomes the case lmao.
