... average over 26 points and 7 assists per game in a championship winning run.

I've always thought of this as a Bird and Lebron kind of statline. It turns out Bird has never done it.

Only five such title winning postseasons in NBA history:

1991 Jordan (31.1/8.4)
2016 Lebron (26.3/7.6)
2020 Lebron (27.6/8.8)
2023 Jokic (30.0/9.5)
2023 Murray (26.1/7.1)

Also kind of bonkers that he did it while sharing the ball with Jokic.

Is he that good or is the statistical inflation the last couple of seasons totally overwhelming?

That's insane that there were only 3 times it happened UNTIL last year where it happened twice on the same team O_O

It’s both. He’s an excellent player, it also helps that his passes often go to possibly the most clinically efficient finisher in history.

The fact only LeBron & Jordan did it then two guys do it on the same team is insane, stat inflation or not :lol

Bird & Curry JUST missed though.

Bird basically did it in '86, averaged 25.9. :lol

He's that good

Specifically, the answer is provided by the time of possession stats - as an expert jumpshooter that can score while the ball moves, Murray can achieve elite stats with 5 minutes or less of hold-time, which allows Jokic to get 5 minutes too.

So both guys can approach ball-dominant status that allows the capacity for max stat production..

Otoh, spotty-shooting ball-dominators like Luka or Lebron hold the ball for 6-8 minutes per game, which reduces the hold-time of other ball-handlers like Westbrook, Wade, Ingram or Hughes to 3-4 minutes - this is insufficient, so that's why those guys fell off a cliff next to Lebron, while Murray and Jokic can maintain
their numbers alongside each other because neither requires high hold-times to get stats.. That's the valueof expert jumpshooting, which reduces the need for ball-domination

Murray's underrated. Nuggets aren't winning a championship without him.

Rising tide lifts all boats

It's justified in the case of an elite producer like Murray, whereas we see lower producers like Wiggins or Pippen get accolades more from the winning spotlight than their ordinary production

Even with those two, that is still a pretty good list of players.

the nuggets offense is very clean and they had a lot of guys stepping up like gordon mpj kcp and brown, which helped him hit those assists numbers

the scoring is no surprise

I knew jamal was special during that series in the bubble against donovan mitchell

If I recall correctly, he didn't even make the all star team last year.

Very underrated.

True. When they faced the heat in the finals, it was simply a mismatch. (https://i.ibb.co/JmpGnKz/IMG-20230528-095117.jpg)

How do you lose to one of the most talented teams on the road? Gobert has played Jokic pretty much even over his career

Denver shot 6-33 from 3. Sometimes teams go cold. It was their 3rd game in 4 nights.

Gobert has honestly been better than Jokic most of their careers. At least offensively.

3 games in 4 nights shouldn't matter when you're in prime condition like Jokic is. Conley says Minnesota will be the best D in the league

Stat Muse is a mine of absurd statistics. What is 26 points per game and 7 assists? Why can't it be 25 and 8 or 27 and 6? It remains to enter the years, days and hours that the player had at the time of playing the match and whether the moon was in the last quarter or first quarter...
