Victor Wembanyama ON-COURT: 104.8 defensive rating (109 minutes)
Victor Wembanyama OFF-COURT: 128.4 defensive rating (88 minutes)

-23.6 on/off defensive rating

The only other players who are even remotely close in on/off defensive rating are Tre Jones (-10.5) and Devin Vassell (-9.2). Most of that on/off comes from playing with Wemby. Rudy Gobert's best number was -12.7 in 2021.

2021 Rudy Gobert ON-COURT: 103.7 defensive rating (2188 minutes)
2021 Rudy Gobert OFF-COURT: 116.4 defensive rating (1286 minutes)

-12.7 on/off defensive rating

It's so incredibly early so these numbers will change as the sample size increases. Still, it's going to be fun tracking this stat as the season progresses.

People are going to sweat Victor missing a couple of threes per game or him being credited with extra turnovers from bad passes while ignoring the 60-70+ defensive possessions he shuts down.

He's already the most impactful player on the team and they're not even playing him in the most optimal position or with the best lineups. He does best at the 5 and playing with Tre but obviously, it's not all about winning right now. Shooting threes, playing at the four, and point Sochan are all for development and the future success of the organization.

He’s definitely a stud on defense and is sure to be a consistent DPOY candidate in the years to come.

As far as him being the offensive revelation some have been predicting… I think that’s a little harder to predict. He already looks as good or better offensively than many defense-first guys ever become, but in terms of getting to a BITW level he’ll have to grow into a more dominant offensive player. He’s never really been that in the pro leagues he’s played in to this point, so it doesnt feel like a lock to just suddenly happen. I hope people around him keep their expectations realistic for his sake.

That's where I'm at. People predicting him as the next KD on offense but with an extra 5 inches of height forget that KD was competing for scoring titles from his 2nd season. Now 'could' Wemby get there? Sure, but as of right now he has shown a greater penchant for game-breaking defense than offense.

Those seem to be pedestrian numbers for a guy with a $205m/5 yr. contract.

Yep, his mere presence is enough to throw everyone off.

Hes also poking hands places hands haven't been poked before (not up ADs asshole like LeRoid who copied ADs college mates)

Players will somewhat adjust...but Wemby will develop faster.

The impact he will have on both ends of the floor will not have been seen since MJ...once his train is rolling

Hes literally a 19 year old twig who hasn't even begun

I am patient and enjoying every tiny moment

You got the numbers for Chet OP?

I think he has been the better of the two so far.

+9.8 on/off offensive rating

It should have been fairly obvious to objective observers that Wemby didn't have an elite offensive game. He's not even at a Porzingis level, let alone Durant.

He is in the same category as Giannis, extremely physically talented, due to his height and coordination, but very raw in terms of skill, but with a high bball iq.

Like Giannis, he just needs to work really hard at doing some things on offense very well and not try to be everything.

He's more fluid than Giannis , and clearly a more skilled shooter even as a rookie.

Less explosive though, but I do think Giannis should be his model.

Defense first, open floor player, that gets most of his points on fastbreaks, putbacks and lobs.

Then being able to hit the open 3 will already put him above Giannis.

So he has a road to be MVP like Giannis and maybe even more, a top 20ish player, but he'll have to become much better offensively at some skill to be a real top 10 threat like Luka and Jokic are.

Honestly with his athleticism he can easily Bill Russell his way through this era.

Or Rudy Gobert but-actually-better his way through it. Whatever.

Update:

Victor Wembanyama ON-COURT: 105.6 defensive rating (143 minutes)
Victor Wembanyama OFF-COURT: 132.4 defensive rating (102 minutes)

-26.8 on/off defensive rating

Those numbers equate to being the 6th-best defense when Victor's on the court and the worst (30th) in the league when he's off the court. Milwaukee is currently the worst-ranked defense in the league at 120.7 defensive rating. San Antonio was the worst defense last season (30th) at 120.0 defensive rating.

Even if you use San Antonio's 2023 defensive rating as a substitute for Wemby's off-court value, his defensive impact still comes out to a -14.4 on/off defensive rating. Crazy.
