Kobe didn't really have a crazy free throw rate. Guys like Wade and Harden did. I have no doubt the league rigged shit for LA in the early 2000s but Kobe proved himself 2008-2010 scoring straight from the field.

There have been a lot of floppers and ref baiters and rule breakers in the past 20 years. Kobe really wasn't one of them.

Bran went from barely an average efficiency player to elite once they started giving him all the calls. KB was already a superstar and a 3x champ. OP thought he had one with this

Did you watch the video? He's talking about the mid-2000s with Kobe going up against Raja in the POs... so KB was already an established superstar and a 3x champ before this, and they made it a point to call more fouls in favor of perimeter players after the 2004 season in general so that's why I'm laughing at OP.

Teams cry about non-calls and send footage to the league/refs all the time. Lebron is not an exception either. KB took and made tough shots regardless so he never needed to get to the FT line consistently to put up points anyways. The rule changes and refs favoring the offensive player helped players with lack of fundamentals such as Bran a lot more than someone like KB.

Saying LeBron has a lack of fundamentals in 2023 should get you banned. How do you think he’s scoring at 39 years old, magic? Imbraindead continuing to be an all time bad troll.

Saying one of the, if not the smartest player to ever lace them up, the all time highest scorer in NBA history, lacks fundamentals doesn't actually mean anything. It's just petty bs.

I'm talking about 2004 you dumb ****. Look at Bran in '04 and how his efficiency jumped the year after when they changed the rules. There's player development as well but his jump-shooting did not improve as much as his Free Throw Rate did, which also opened up more easy layups/dunks for him as guys would not be able to contest that without getting called for the foul, even if Bran initiated the contact.

Sure, his 3PT improved but it didn't have as much of an impact as the increased FTr and FG% at the rim. He was still just as bad of a mid-range shooter but the calls that he started getting made him unstoppable as a scorer while it didn't impact KB's game much at all.

In fact, KB's Free Throw rate in '06 was much lower than in his past 2 seasons despite him averaging 35 a game.

I'm talking about Lebron in the mid-2000s and when they made it a point to favor the offensive player in order to boost scoring around the league. Lebron was a very inconsistent perimeter scorer back then so the rule changes helped him more than anyone else.

LeBron improved significantly after his rookie season? Incredible, such a thing has never happened before. Especially when a player was a teenager as a rookie. Nope it was the refs. Never mind the fact that LeBron has had a lower FTR than he did as a rookie for the last 4 full seasons :lol

We're talking about the mid-2000s here. He already played ~40 mpg and carried the same load as a rookie, but he wasn't getting the same calls because the rules were different.

Your “evidence” is LeBron improving after his rookie season when he was 18 and 19 years old. Are you retarded?

His efficiency continued to improve after the rule changes (as did his free throw rate at least until he got to Miami) until he reached his peak and it leveled off. It’s almost like he was getting better as he matured but apparently you’re too stupid to know that’s generally what happens for players?

I'm not sure what's so hard to understand here. If refs are told to call more fouls in favor of a superstar, it's much easier to do it with someone who's constantly driving to the rim where they're drawing contact all the time. I acknowledged that Bran was young at the time in the initial post, that goes without saying. Doesn't mean that it didn't help. KB actually started attacking the rim less after the rule changes due to injuries and his FTr was way lower the year he put up 35 a game, so he was mostly doing that on volume jump shooting.

What's hard to understand is you thinking him improving after being a literal rookie teenager means anything. Especially since he continued to raise both his efficiency and free throw rate every single season (with the exception of 2006-07 when he was off his game for whatever reason) until he got to Miami. What rule changes were increasing them then? :yaohappy: It's almost as if he got better at finishing, shooting and drawing fouls as he matured.

For what it's worth Kobe's free throw rate the season after the rule changes was higher than any season of LeBron's career except for 2009-10. And LeBron drove far more often. Yikes.

Why do you continue to try and argue with me, I embarrass you every time.

Again, Miami has nothing to do with it. Him being 39 now has nothing to do with it. This is about the mid-2000s. He absolutely does not put up the same numbers in '05 if the rule changes don't happen. You'd still see an increase in production as he improves and grows into his body but not as much when it comes to the efficiency part of it.

Doesn't matter though. The point was that KB did not need to get more calls in order to score more. His FTr was down almost 8% when you compare his '06 season to his '04 one, and that's with the rule changes. Raja got away with fouling Kobe a lot so I'm not surprised that the Lakers complained about it & it made it to the refs. It's standard procedure.

Yes, because you absolutely can NOT benefit from rule changes when you're a teenager. Sound logic.

Conjecture based upon nothing re: LeBron. Kobe’s ftr increased dramatically immediately following the rule change and he set a career high (to that point) in efficiency as well. His free throw rates in 07 and 08 were some of his highest ever as well. You want to know why his free throw rate was so high in 2003-04 (much higher than his other seasons as a star before that)? Because he took 31.9% of his shots at the rim. In 2004-05 he took 27.2% of his shots from there and after that he never came close to those numbers. Only 20% of his shots came from there in 2005-06 and you’re whining about him not getting the same free throw rate :yaohappy: Kobe legitimately had a MUCH higher free throw rate than LeBron in 2005 despite LeBron shooting at the rim quite a bit more. LeBron had higher free throw rates after that because Kobe stopped driving with regularity. Even still there rates were way closer than you’d think if LeBron was the one getting more favorable calls. In 2007-08 LeBron took 37.3% of his shots at the rim and had a 47.0 free throw rate. Kobe only took 24.6% of his shots at the rim that year but had a 43.9% free throw rate. Again nothing you are saying has any basis in reality. I am using facts and you are arguing emotionally. Just admit you’re wrong for once in your life Jesus.

Durant had a very similar spike in efficiency and ftr after his rookie year. As did Luka. It’s almost like all time great players improve the more they play.

So you think rule changes don't impact a player like Bran at all? Almost everyone's FTr increased after rule changes but Bran did not benefit from the rule change because he was a rookie?

Wade's FTA doubled in RS & POs from '04 to '05 but it was all because he was a rookie and a young 22 at time time, right? :lol :lol

Like, are you really surprised that players who rely on their athleticism and their ability to get to the rim would benefit more from the rule changes? Lakers traded Shaq and were top 5 in 3PA compared to not having as much spacing the year before so it makes sense that KB got more shots at the rim. He was also hurt in both '04 and '05 so his FTr increased while his shot volume was down as he wasn't looking to create as much for himself from the perimeter. Less volume jump-shooting.

Also, I'm not surprised the attempts at the rim went down while FTr went up for KB since they started giving him more of those calls at the rim, which takes away 1-2 of those attempts per game so that actually makes a ton of sense as well. Also the offense changed in '08 with Gasol. Lebron's shots at the rim didn't increase in '05 either while his FTs increased so in reality he did attack the rim more than the previous year. Same with Wade.

Why is ImKobe trying to make this thread about LeBron James?

NBA Told Refs to Call More Fouls for Kobe So He Could Score More

Kobe was getting special treatment from the refs (like Mikey) regardless of what ImKobe is babbling about. Some stars FTs increased? Ok shave a couple points off their scoring totals if it makes you happy but that means you should shave double that amount off Kobe Bryant's since he was getting extra special treatment to score more, as admitted by corrupt ref Tim Donaghy.

Double? And Donaghy was talking about either the '06 or '07 series against Phoenix. Teams complain about calls and send footage to the league office all the time. If the refs were missing calls on KB and were told to do their jobs I don't see how that's rigging anything. KB only averaged 7 FTs per game in those series vs. Phoenix btw with only one game with 10+ FTA in 12 games.
