19 ppg on 43/28/77 splits
also 2.3 assists to 3.9 TOs
All I'm seeing is a stretched out Antoine Walker

It is what it is, innit?
It's hard to say how this is all going to look a few years down the line. Will those jump shots start falling at efficient rates that justify their usage? Maybe. Maybe not. He's getting away with it right now because he's young, but if he's still bricking it up next year, or the one after that... Then it might be time for a discussion about how he wants to play and how he should play.
In my opinion, whether he succeeds or not will come down to his commitment to strength and conditioning. He's too affected by physicality and subpar conditioning right now. It limits his ability to get the easy buckets in the paint. His high center of gravity and relatively low weight make it easy to push him off his spots and out of the paint.

They're just letting him do whatever out there and he doesn't have a reliable playmaker feeding him either.

He should be more focused on playing in the paint because that's where he has dominant advantages in length and agility and can use those advantages best on offense. But no one comes in at 19 or 20 and is immediate allstar as a rookie. He's very much not a finished product and so long as he doesn't suffer from Ben Simmons disease he will be great. He may already be the top asset in the league.

Those are not bad numbers for a rookie at all. wtf people should calm down, shooting becomes better as you gain experience. His iq is fine

The main problem is him rushing his shots and not having enough arc when shooting closer to the basket. These should be fixable. Dude should slow a bit down.

This. They are letting him figure stuff out right now. Once both wemby and the coaching staff starts seeing what works and what doesn’t they can start reeling some things in if needed. Right now he’s like a little puppy that just needs to go out and play.

This is probably the dumbest comparison I've ever seen. Antione Walker played zero defense and was westbrook-like as a big man. And had horrible bball IQ. They play nothing alike.
Wembanyama is on a horrible team as a rookie with 0 star help. It's hard to produce efficiently under those conditions.

People say he is trying stuff out but that can quickly turn into just ingraining bad habits.
Let's not forget he was playing the exact same way in France - they should already be working on removing this crap from his game.

He’s not going to be doing it for multiple years. He only has a handful of games in a league that’s brand new for him. He’s literally just figuring shit out on the fly right now.

13 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, and 8 blocks for Wemby-san!

He's extremely raw and would really have benefited from some years in college. Remember he only played in the french league and not even Euroleague.
Reminder that Luka was Euroleague MVP at the same age as Wemby. People wanting to hype him as some GOAT talents were always ridicolous, based on what? Being tall?
Because if you had seen him play in France, which seemingly few people did, you'd see his issues were there too, slow in dribbling, slow in shooting, too light, too awkward.
I think he's doing better than expected honestly.
As I see it, it's all coming down to how much he wants to work on his game. Is he content being rich? Or does he have the burning fire for being great? If he works on his game, he should be able to reach Giannis level in skill, which would make him an MVP type player.

He is a goat talent because of the eye test, not his stats in a French League.
Nobody has seen someone his height/length with that type of skill and movement ability.

What he does at his height, how he plays offensively + his defensive abilities are quite interesting. We haven't seen that kind of athleticism from a guy like that before. So no, it's not just based on him being tall. I don't have a problem with people wishing he becomes the best ever. It would be crazy to witness given the potential.

What does he do at his height that Porzingis can't do better?

Porzingis is not as athletic as Wemby. He's way less experimental with his skill set. The difference is pretty clear hence the Wemby hype. Also Porzingis doesn't have that ridiculous wingspan. Why do you do this? :lol

He is a better rim defender and perimeter defender, as well as athlete than Porzingis. Seems to have a far better eye for a pass too.
Porzingis is a good player in the league when healthy, so if he is at that level first year, without adapting to the league yet... doing okay I think.

Porzingis is an excellent defender and has a good shot at the allstar game this year. But Wembanyama is still a better defender. It's no slight to Porzingis, Wembanyama is already the best help defender in the game. We've never seen anyone that covers space like he does and he can't be shot over.

Sure, but Porzingis has also been an elite rim protector.
In his third season, 2017/2018, before getting injured, Porzingis led the league in allowed FG% at the rim.
In the same season he averaged 27 ppg with 40% from 3 through the first 30 games.
People never paid attention to Zingis. He was a legit MVP candidate during that time. Then he got injured and never recovered.
Like I said, if Wemby can become Porzingis, without the injuries, then everyone should be very happy.

but injuries are a thing especially when you are too tall

I havent seen anything wrong with his bball IQ, I think he’s 19 years old and 7’3.5 inches tall, which is absolutely freakish. He understandably could use some time to figure out exactly how to leverage his body best in an NBA setting.
Even then Ive seen him do a good job sealing smaller defenders, making quick improvised moves to the basket, finding teammates with nice passes. Really havent noticed anything that would make me question his game sense.
The biggest issue from what I can see is the shooting just isnt there many nights. That would be the main thing he needs to improve upon. And again, at his bizarre height, his jump shot probably has a different mechanic than most. So people need to settle down and be patient, he’s still a damn teenager.
