Two questions...

1. What is your order of how strong the league is in 2003, 2013 and 2023?

2. What is your order of how entertaining it is/was to follow the NBA in 2003, 2013 and 2023?

Are you talking about this season? The league feels different this season compared to last yet they are both 2023. :confusedshrug:

This. The same happens with 2003, there were lots of trades in the summer of 2003 and there were way more contenders in 2003-2004 than in the previous years. Anyway, this would be the answer for me:

1-2003
2-2013
3-2023

With no defense played, load-management, etc. I think the quality of basketball has suffered a downgrade throughout the years.

In general and depth wise the level has risen, but 2003 had like 5 GOATs in their prime so Id take it over 2013 which had like 2 superstars, 3 if you count Melo (arguably peak), but in truth he probably wasnt better than CP3 that year.

Carmelo was never a superstar despite the hype to the contrary

the depth and talent we're seeing currently is arguably smoke and mirrors. the game is so predicated on the 3 point shot, it has inflated the value of so many players who would otherwise be considered average.

in today's game it's 50% about how well you execute and 50% how well your team is shooting that night. it's become more of a random crap shoot. every team knows how to set up open 3's now, so you could be getting totally outplayed but still remain in the game if your team can get hot.

it's bad for the game in the sense that it's overly repetitive and can make for sloppy basketball. it's good for the game in the sense that more teams have a path to win and the results aren't as predictable. in years past a team like the heat could have never made the finals.

so that's both good and bad depending on how you look at it.

No I just grew up on a lot of high scoring 3's that were better than him and not considered superstars. He's always been overrated

Melo was considered better than Lebron in 2007 until that fight broke out and he got suspended. He was never the same afterwards.
