The Luckiest top 10 nba player of all time was Tim Duncan. Other players were drafted by very bad teams and drafted in a very bad situation. the Spurs tanked after David Robinson got injured in 1996. The Spurs still had a solid core after Robinson returned from his injuries, and Duncan made his rookie debut in 1997. And 2 years later they won the nba championship in the 1999 lock out season.

Yes, Duncan was drafted into a great situation with a model franchise that always put a contender around him, but he actually got phenomenally unlucky on several occasions throughout his career.

Getting injured right before the 2000 playoffs as the defending champ
Derek Fisher's .4 shot
Manu's idiotic foul on Dirk
Most notably, the ending of Game 6/Allen's 3
Losing on the final night in 2015, dropping from like the 2 seed to the 6th, then losing on CP3's series ender

You can of course point to other instances of him getting lucky during championship runs, but that's as brutal as it gets for a top 10 player. I feel bad saying this due to his tragic death, but strictly on the court, Kobe imo was the luckiest player of all time. He seemed to catch every break during his championship seasons.

David Robinson and the Spurs weren't known as winners before Duncan got drafted.

The man was all nba first team as a rookie.

As far as #1 picks go, he was possibly drafted into the best situation from the jump from '90 onwards. I can't think of a better one.

Duncan is my favorite player of all time but those are facts.

No. What have the Spurs done since? What did they do before?

You're the type of guy that argues that Bill Russell played with a ton of all time greats and actually believes that Russell wasn't the overwhelming reason why they won title after title.

Tim Duncan was the Spurs. Not the front office, and not the coach. Nobody can do it alone, but he was by far the biggest reason they won all those titles and games.

Magic was drafted into a pretty nice situation as well.

In the year 1998, Tim Duncan is a PF for the Spurs. Imagine if you put him on 1998 Jazz?

You're right OP. He didn't have to shoulder the heavy burden of having to figure out how to fit his game with other top3 players in the league like the person in your avvy.

Kobe too after he played a few years in the league.

This thread is stupid. Spurs are actually the luckiest franchise ever for landing a top 10 goat.

Duncan was drafted to a good franchise but he also was able to win a handful of titles without superstar help.

Meanwhile your boy Lebron team hopped all around the league, failed with prime peak Wade, and was two shots by Ray and Kyrie from being 2/10 in the NBA Finals.

That's some unprecedented stuff.

Whatever helps you sleep at night. No finals or playoffs for the fools you have mentioned without LeBron next to them.

Speaks volume about your intelligence.

Lebron is the luckiest player of all time.

Spurs gifted him a ring in 2013
Steph got injured in 2016 and Kyrie bailed him out

2012 & 2020 are asterisk rings no one cares about

Wade and Ray Allen both made Finals and won rings without Lebron.
