They are also tied for last in DRTG...honestly looks like they are playing high-level rec ball out there with zero defense.

As an oldschool guy I really hate the way they play especially the fact that they routinely get killed by any half decent bigman. Would love for them to get a Dale/Antonio Davis type banger to help them inside.

In the playoffs they will make some fans nervous because Halliburton is great and any team that can score like that can win a game. But I would easily bet against them winning a championship because you just dont see a champion in any sport that defends that poorly. In the postseason someone will make the adjustments to defend their threes, maybe not shutting them down but getting enough stops that they have to hold the opponent under 120. They will not be able to contain a strong offense on the other end and that's why they will lose. But if and when they get some defenders in their mix they will be a threat.

They give up 125 points per game. I never thought I would see anything like that again. Made me go check those ridiculous Denver Nuggets to see how the numbers compared. I knew the Nuggets gave up 131 points per game. I did a video on them like 10 years ago and I found the topic I made with all of the following ridiculous facts:




The Enver Nuggets of the late 80s/early 90s. So called because they gave up 118, 113, 116, 113, and 131 ppg over 5 years. Last of those years they gave up 162ppg in the preseason. Yes...162....with the worst defensive effort in pro basketball history....

In the 1990 preseason the Nuggets allowed the Hawks to score...one hundred...and ninety four...points.

And followed it up by giving up 186 to the Suns!

One game they gave up 173 to the Celtics in that preseason. Larry Bird...this is 1990 Larry Bird...past his prime....had 12 points, 19 rebounds, and 12 assists in 19 minutes. And they played them again in 5 days..Bird had 21/15/13 in one half.

They gave up 154 points per game over their first 7 in the regular season including 160+ 3 times with a high of 173.




I was surprised when I checked the defensive rating versus the current Pacers. Then I realized where those nuggets would be compared to the modern league(middle of the pack). Three pointers completely ****ed up those comparisons across eras.

The Pacers have a lot of young guys who haven't learned how to make the right rotations quickly. I would expect their defense to improve by the end of the season.
