2.7 blocks and 1.3 steals per game for the season. Only 0.1 blocks per game behind Davis and Lopez. More combined stocks per game than anyone in the league.

This guy is just brimming with defensive potential. Just wait till he gains some strength and power. He'll have months where he averages 4+ blocks. I think the average amount of games in a month is like 12-13.

Charles Barkley once averaged 3.3 blocks and 2.4 steals over a 6 game stretch. In fact he averaged 3.2 blocks and 1.8 steals over 13 games.

Don't know why he stopped blocking shots mid-way through his 4th season. He averaged 1.5 blocks in his first 290 games, then 0.7 in his next 290.

Correction: Wemby is now #1 in blocks per game.

Fat, lazy, or both would be my guess.

guys generally block less shots because guys go at them less once they know they block shots and also because blocking the shot isn't necessarily the best play. Puts you out of position if there's a pump fake, for the rebound etc. Gobert became a better defender once he figured all that out. Only led the league once in blocks. Overrated stat as is steals. They don't really measure defensive impact

Nice to see him improve so much early on on the defensive end & on the boards in general. His averages are going to be scary once he starts playing 32-34 mpg and once they have him playing a little more closer to the basket.

Im not sure adding weight is going to increase his effectiveness getting blocks and steals. If anything it could hinder him, since that stuff is mostly about quickness in addition to length.

It should help him with rebounding and post positioning but I dont see how it makes a defensive difference.

That's why I said strength and power. The muscle mass gain is incidental (Hannibal Lector voice). Power = strength x speed. Lifting weights will increase his power-to-weight ratio. This will allow him to cover ground faster and jump higher. He'll be able to contest and potentially block more shots as well as get into passing lanes and steal the ball and deflect passes.

Add another 10 blocks in three games. Now up to 33 blocks in 9 games - good for 3.7 blocks per game. Season average up to 2.8 blocks per game.

Another six blocks! That makes for 39 blocks in 10 games - 3.9 blocks per game! His season average is now up to 3.0 per game.

I heard it mentioned during the Bucks game yesterday that it’s BroLo leading the league in blocks so far this season. Which I was sort of surprised about only because weve heard so much about Vic and Chet’s blocking prowess, woulda thought it had to be one of them.

Did Yama just pass him tonight?

He should focus on his defense the rest of the rookie season.

Forget about all the drama with teammates. He's not winning ROY by scoring anyway, that's for Chet.

If he made some waves as DPOY as a rookie though? That would really be something.

He should force a trade to LA imo.

he's not winning ROTY. Their D would have to be good. They are 25th in league in DRtg. He's 16th. Blocks don't mean what they used to when stiffs like Eaton won it. Looks like D will be where he can make the most impact though. Jazz certainly didn't want any part of him in the paint last night

The issue is that when the majority of shots are 3 pointers, then a big man will just never have the impact as in earlier eras, but it's still a great base to build around.

I think more of an issue is that players might get complacent and have that Jazz mentality that just let the big man deal with it, but that doesn't work anymore.

With 7 blocks tonight his season average has gone up to 3.2 blocks per game! (rounded up from 3.185).

Victor has blocked 60 shots over the last 15 games. Good for 4.0 blocks per game! Damn. More than a month's worth of games.

Also worth mentioning he's averaging 4.5 blocks per game since moving to the center position. 38 blocks in 8 games. I wouldn't put it past him to average 3.5-4.0 blocks per game for the season with how things are trending.

I was cautious with my prediction and thought he'd average between 2.5-3.0 blocks per game. I truly underestimated him. Already sitting at 3.2 blocks per game with 55 games left.

- 3.2 blocks per game for the season.
- 3.9 blocks per game over the last 18 games. 70 blocks in 18 games.
- 4.4 blocks per game over the last 11 games as a center. 48 blocks in 11 games. In only like 27 minutes per game, too.

Update:

- 3.3 blocks per game for the season.
- 4.0 blocks per game over the last 19 games (75 blocks in 19 games)
- 4.4 blocks per game over the last 12 games as a center (53 blocks in 12 games). Still in only like 26 minutes per game.

I keep waiting for these block numbers to go down but I guess these are the normal Wemby numbers.

Wemby might turn out to be the greatest shot blocker of all time.
