I think George Gervin is in the same ranking as Kevin Durant. Both top 20 players of all time. Gervin was very unfortunate he played in a small market team like the San Antonio Spurs. He led the Spurs to the conference finals thrice as the no. 1 scoring option that Spurs team is not bad he was just very unfortunate he played against the Showtime Lakers. The Lakers bench were also solid that’s why they won 5 nba titles in the 1980’s. Gervin and his Spurs probably won a title if they play in the 1990’s and 2000’s. THe lakers bench had a former mvp in bob mcadoo as their 6th man with former Warriors Jamal Wilkes as their starter and a young James Worthy. Basically the Peak Lakers Squad looks like Team USA.

George Gervin was an ABA's player who then went on to play for the NBA's. He went on to wins 4 scorings titles, but he never win an NBA championships. The Showtime Lakers have a good bench and they went on to win 5 championship in the 1980's.

Gervin was really fun to watch. He led the league in scoring 4 times and his efficiency was actually good for that time. His career TS is better than Kobe.

He was also a league leader in style points.

The Iceman was WAYYYYY AHEAD OF HIS TIME! A 6'7-6'8 SG with that type of scoring skillset, huge scoring numbers, and efficiency had never been seen before. AT ONE POINT in time, u could make the case Iceman was the #2 GOAT SG only behind Jerry West. Of course MJ and Drexler rose above him down the road. BUT at one point, only West was greater at the 2 spot. And after all these years HE'S STILL a mortal lock in the top 10 GOAT SG's. If you don't see Gervin's name in that list, the list is AUTOMATICALLY invalid!

But NO WAY IN HELL is he a top 20 GOAT. U gotta have rings to be in that realm. Unless you are a Karl Malone whose numbers and accolades ARE SO GREAT he's worthy of top 20 GOAT status. But when it comes to the 10 greatest retired players who NEVER won a ring, Iceman is EASILY in that group. He's in there with Barkley, Mailman, Baylor, Ewing, Nique, Stock, AI, etc. And he was basically THE BLUEPRINT when it came to 6'6 and up SG's with the sick scoring skillset and showtime type swagger. That means MJ, Kobe, T Mac, Vince, etc. all come from Ice's tree in THAT SENSE! Those guys added freak athletic ability on top of it though!!
