They had to get rid of Paul since he always gets hurt in the playoffs. He is too old to count on for a long playoff run.
Ayton I don't know. Maybe it was a toxic situation. Definitely seems like a downgrade.
Granted they haven't been healthy yet but I didn't like the Beal trade. I thought they would be better off looking for role players that fit with KD/Booker similar to what Denver did with Gordon/KCP.
It's early though.

They weren’t gonna win either way. With a trade or without a trade. so it don’t matter. Hate to be harsh but the truth is harsh sometimes

Pretty sure Ayton didn't wanna be there. Wanted a bigger role.

Losing guys like mikal bridges, cam Johnson and cam Payne probably hurt them more than losing Ayton and Paul. Not only did they lose their depth, but also heart and soul guys in the process.

I have wondered if he lacks confidence or isn't very smart in general.

They got Nurkic in hopes they wouldn’t have to double Jokic all series long in playoffs.
Letting go of old Chris Small wasn’t an issue, dude always underperforms in key moments during post season or gets hurt after a good few games.
Those offloads weren’t the problem.
Problem is KD is still great but rapidly aging and can’t get more easy buckets in post, and Beal can’t get on the court. Also KD isn’t the greatest passer out of double teams despite being so tall/long. He isn’t a turnover machine, but often makes the right pass … but never early. He makes the right pass just late enough where the shooter doesn’t get as clean a look as they could.
Now it looks like they’ll get a lower seed that their talented roster (when healthy) and won’t get home court against the top western teams.
Also, Ishbia hasn’t said any crazy racist sh!t but he’s a clown and nobody respects him.
Phoenix has problems, but it isn’t letting go of Chris Small or Deanna Ayton.

The Suns problem is their two best players are mentally weak front runners.

They're basically a completely new team.
That team was CP3 and Ayton, Booker lived off the looks he got from them.

Booker's scoring this year is virtually identical to last year. He isn't their problem.

Ayton had to go too.
Ayton had to go with Monty as HC. But Monty got canned.

Seems like getting rid of Ayton was the right move

Deandre Ayton's early tenure in Portland was characterized by ‘tardiness and tantrums,’ per
@jwquick
“His first months in Portland were defined by tardiness and tantrums according to team sources. And there has been an eerie resemblance to Hassan Whiteside, the former Blazers' center whose statistics looked nice, but had little to no impact on a game.”
