Outside of being an ingredient in a larger dish that is. I came across some Honeycrisp apples and just decided I wanted an apple. I never think to buy apples. It’s like they’re the default fruit and have been for so long we no longer look at them as a treat. But an apple is pretty ****ing good. a fruit doesn’t have to be sexy and trendy to give you what you need. We shouldn’t stop respecting the greatness of a fruit just because it’s always great, and never surprises us anymore.

i’m sure by now most of you are so familiar with me tying some non-interesting thing I’m doing or seeing into a basketball discussion you don’t even need me to do the legwork. So just flesh this out in your head and give me the answer to the question you can probably tell I was going to ask.

Well. Now my car just has an apple core in it. I can’t just throw it out the window. Apple cores and banana peels feel like classic littering. No doubt less harmful than plastic littering but littering nonetheless. This is a downside of an apple. Apples have a remnant.

There's nothing wrong with throwing an apple core out the window. If anything it eventually spreads the seeds in nature to make more apple trees. I've been eating an apple and a mini bag of sour patch kids candy for desert for a couple a weeks now since there's still leftovers from Halloween.

Whether you dispose of food waste like this outdoors or not depends on your exact location, the context, and the scale.

And tossing it out of an automobile can be problematic, particularly if a bunch of other people have the same idea.

Well where I live apple trees are native. I don't just throw it by the curb but chuck that shit into the woods as I ride by. There's definitely no foul in doing that. I see rotten apples fall from trees in my grandma's backyard all the time. It's literally nature.

If I have Access to nature, or even a ditch I would not hesitate to throw an apple core into it. But on a paved surface? [Liam Neeson being asked if he would give up some of his own salary, while talking about the inequities between men and women in Hollywood]No. No no no no no now you’ve gone too far[hilarious hypocrisy].

And yes, Billups might have been an apple. What was he like a four-time All-Star? Generally appreciated. I feel like apples might be higher in the fruit hierarchy than Chauncey Billups was as a point guard in his prime but I’m not confident enough to say for sure. This could easily be flipped to apples being overrated, even though I am speaking positively about them. Apples are probably the default fruit that springs in your head at the mention of the word. But they are absolutely not the greatest of the fruits. Well, actually, they might be the greatest. They absolutely are not the best of fruits. Apples are like an incredibly respected pioneer from 70 or 80 years ago in the fruit game. You have to say the name but I’m not sure apples are anyone’s goat on merit.

And here I am having turned on them that quick. But in comparing an apple to Ty Cobb or Babe Ruth disrespect? Though baseball guys from those days are held in higher acclaim than most sports. Maybe I should have gone with one of those Chicago bears who won all those titles we choose to ignore because we didn’t call them “Superbowls” yet.

Are apples Sid Luckman or Babe Ruth? I won’t compare them to Russell or Wilt. Mikan maybe.

Were apples the original superstar fruit?

Even on a paved surface it's just gonna feed the wildlife. People talking about they'll get hit by cars reaching for it. Deer jump out of nowhere out of the woods and get hit all the time while reaching for nothing. Squirrels dart in and out the road for no particular reason. Animals don't need an excuse to get hit by a car. And if a quick ass bird with the ability to fly can't dodge a 5000lb vehicle it probably wasn't meant to live and pass on its genes. I've never seen a bird get hit by a car.

I like Macintosh. They're not too common here but they're really crispy and tart. And apples are great for digestion. The pectins and the fiber.
Hate those mealy red delicious like you'd get in an elementary school lunch.

It's not gonna actually grow into an apple tree without being placed in a specific soil type in a specific climate etc, but it is still perfectly fine to throw anything organic back into nature. Unlike plastic, styrofoam, metal etc it will harmlessly degrade within a day or two and return all remaining nutrients into the soil. In fact youre SUPPOSED to compost such things rather than just throw them in plastic garbage bags with the rest of the trash. I keep a tupperware in my freezer that I put cores, peels, shells etc in until its full and then just take it to an empty field somwhere and release it. If I'm driving a car and I have something organic to dispose of, I just wait til I'm driving adjacent to a grassy area and pitch it.

I see everything I just said in this post was eventually discussed in the thread.

So I'll further add:

There are studies showing apples and pears to be the two most stabilizing fruits for blood sugar. They're fibrous, and sweet but not super sweet. Essentially theyre the healthiest fruits to eat in terms of one single serving. Altho you get other benefits from eating a diverse range of fruits. But in terms of which to eat most often: apples and pears.

The timing of this discussion is unfortunate, with highwhey being banned. I feel like he could have benefited immensely from this information.

If you wanna go one step up from Chauncey while staying within the same framework: Chris Paul.

Id say he was an apple.

If you love how explosively crunchy and juicy HONEYCRISP are; try to find the “Rainier HONEYCRISP 84” batches, and get the darkest red skin, with the subtle green vertical stripes … best HONEYCRISP pheno of them all IMHO.

Also, try some of the other newer varieties developed/bred by University of Minnesnowta. As well as the Cosmic Crisp, Cameo, and SugarBee 3486.

Cosmic Crisp is legit

I’ve always liked the Fuji ones too

Looking back in the day, the red delicious ones kinda suck, not a good texture and maybe too sweet?

Granny Smith ain’t bad but could be a little tart

Fuji and Cosmic Crisp is a good balance but these new cosmic crisp ones are the best

Who the f*ck happens to live near the wood at the time they decide to eat an apple? You guys gotta start rethinking some of the stuff you type.

I keep douchebag fruits. I have a bag of persimmons on the counter. Cherimoya if I come across one. Whatever exotic melon I might spot. I’ve been into pomegranates lately. I’m a sucker for any kinda named grape. Never just get a bag of apples. But I have one now. I’ll see how long it lasts.

If I'm in my car? There's wood's and tree patches literally everywhere. Not everybody lives in a big city.

You're the exception. You made the comment like people can just litter and it’s cool. You have to lead with “where I live…”

Yes you’re the exception because most people do not live in the same environment as you claim. I can’t go outside and see woods and toss sh*t into the woods. And yes it’s considered littering depending where you are from. You’re from the boondocks I’m from the city. That simple
