Tournament Finals? Plays like ass

Morant's return game; a chance to show he's the best player from that draft? Plays like ass

Work ethic, dedication.

That's it.

Clearly is lacking motivation. He got the bag and stopped doing what got him there, he's satisfied enough that he made it and was a star. Great players are unspokenly motivated and work on their craft, bodies, even public image. Zion is lazy in all areas.

His parents are bankrupting him, a porn star is milking him… He probably feels lonely and helpless. I dont think he has good people in his life he can lean on while he’s still maturing mentally. Probably just feels used and overwhelmed.

I feel bad tbh.

22/6/5 on 58% shooting on a playoff team that hasn’t been healthy. I supposed it just depends what you think he should be doing. If you think he should be the next LeBron, then I suppose something is wrong with him. If you think he’s supposed to be a perennial star he’s doing about what he’s supposed to do. If he works up to his normal level I don’t think there is much cause for complaint unless you literally thought he was supposed to be running the league by now.

A substantial number of people that post here expect every single player in the league that has generational star level talent to have a Kobe/MJ mentally ill level of competitiveness and if they don't, they get criticized.

But I do think it's pretty clear that basketball isn't Zion's priority. I don't care enough to say more than that.

It takes too much energy to consistently score at the rim without some physical advantage like length (Shaq, Giannis) or speed (Morant, Westbrook). That's why Zion and Blake Griffin aren't as good as advertised. Lebron is the only one at that height who's succeeded because he has the rare speed.

A change of scenery might do some good in this case. Zion is definitely underachieving despite the decent stats.

This. Zion is not very intelligent and his general lack of intelligence leads to stupid life choices, including becoming fat, getting it on with pornstars, not really thinking about his game and career etc.

He should be a far better rebounder. He should be an athletic monster overwhelming the league with his explosive power and strength.

...at least that's the way it feels. That's what most people were expecting when he was drafted. Julius Randle was supposed to be a poor man's Zion Williamson but instead Williamson is almost like a poor man's Randle. I laughed at Tim Thomas fans for years but this is probably what they felt like.

I also think he is just being severely misused.

He is far and away their most talented player, yet he is 3rd in shot attempts. Sometimes he's out on the floor and doesn't even look like he's part of the offense. They are so preoccupied with hunting for 3's that Zion becomes an afterthought.

The other night I can't even count how many times I saw him out on the perimeter feeding someone else in the post. Like hey idiots, it's supposed to be the other way around.

Zion can score off the dribble and he's dominant in the post. He can get easy buckets and he can create wide open looks. I don't understand why the team isn't playing through him.

takes more than twice as many free throws as McCollum so he loses some attempts there. Probably want to spread it around and hope he's healthy in the playoffs when they can go to him more

He doesn't want it bad enough and his work ethic sucks. He relies solely on his talent to perform and hasn't developed his game at all

According to the contract, which was reviewed by The Athletic, the final three years of the deal are no longer guaranteed after Zion Williamson was able to only play in 29 games last season. (https://theathletic.com/4913537/2023/12/21/zion-williamson-contract-pelicans-nba/?utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=twhq&source=twitterhq) By missing more than 22 games last season, Williamson triggered a clause that turned the salary he is owed for the 2025-26, 2026-27 and 2027-28 seasons from guaranteed to non-guaranteed. That means the Pelicans have the contractual power to waive Williamson after the 2024-25 season with no financial ramifications — though rival team executives believe that would only happen in extreme circumstances. And if Williamson misses significant time this season, it could cut into his guaranteed salary for 2024-25.

He's one of the greatest busts in NBA history relative to the hype and the position he was drafted at. I say that because he clearly has the talent to be an All-NBA level player but doesn't give a shit about improving his game and playing winning basketball. What a waste. This is basically Ben Simmons 2.0 IMO, and at least Ben Simmons played winning basketball for a couple years before he choked vs. the Hawks in the Playoffs & had a debilitating back injury.

Refuses to get in shape. Is injured all the time because of his lack of work ethic. Refuses to work on his shooting. Doesn't play defense. He's putting up similar or arguably worse numbers (less points on worse efficiency in more mpg) now than he did as a rookie in the same sample size and this is with the league increasing in efficiency and pace year after year.

He's more or less the same player he was when he came in. Which when healthy is perennial all-star, on the cusp of all-NBA level. But it's pretty clear his mindset will keep him from maxing out. Mind you he's young, but he came in real young. 4 years into the league he should have formed certain habits that will carry over into his peak years.

Wouldn't surprise me if he's actually out of the league by his late 20s.

He's one of those guys who got paid and just doesn't care anymore. All he wants is to eat and simp for strippers.

He's probably from a poor family and made enough to last a lifetime or two, but unfortunately he will probably risk going broke.

He's an exhibit A case of giving these guys the world from day one, whether it be hype or financial reward/endorsements. I don't know Zions background, but if you come from average means and your rookie contract is 44 million, then you're extended an extra 200m AFTER an injury filled career start, on the basis of what you 'could be'? That takes a level of dedication and discipline we can't assume to be innate in every top flight athlete. As fans, we generally put expectations on guys with obvious potential to be something assuming they want the same thing. We want Zion to be historic, but maybe he's fine with just being really, really good when healthy. Historic is reserved for those whose mindset matches the talent.

Zion has his bag. Mind you, he strikes me as someone who will likely end up broke or at least not maximizing his wealth. Strippers and baby mamas will consume that shit, but he'll be living it up while he can I guess.
