Andre Drummond is still the most elite rebounder today. By far. He has no equal. One of the best all time too. The other day he started and casually get 25 rebounds.

Yet he only get less than 15 minutes per game for the past couple seasons or so.

What is up with that.

There are other players who are better at basketball than him...

I always liked him with the Pistons but seeing him on the Lakers was different. Seemed to have trouble catching fast passes and lobs, making generally bone headed plays outside the flow on the game. He's talented but I don't know what team could use him for big stretches.

a lot more to the game than rebounding. Can't defend or stretch the floor so his value is limited today. In a different era he would have fared better

Numbers can be a bit deceiving here. I'm watching all Nuggets games and Jokic averages 12+ rebounds a game. It could easily be 15. Even more. Many times he does everything except grabbing the board. He could.. but some small guy on the team takes it away. Jokic defends the position, boxes out and is in perfect position to get the board. He absolutely would... but there is Murray, Christian Brown or a lot of the time Porter 'taking it away'. I'm sure it happens on other teams, too. You have to watch many games to see this pattern and this year it's the Nuggets I follow the most, so I can't really speak for other such players but Jokic is so disinterested in his stats he literally gives away many rebounds. (Points as well, btw.) I guess it's good for team chemistry but sometimes hard to grasp when you watch it happening.

Why is it so hard to grasp? Letting other teammates get involved helps the team. It leads to winning, and winning makes the game a lot more fun. Jokic does this better than anyone right now. It’s pretty clear he doesn’t care at all about his own numbers. I’ve seen it with points, with rebounds. I’ve seen times when he could do something to force his 10th assist, but instead he simply makes the right play at the time.

Last night, he dominated the game on what, from the stat sheet looks like a mediocre performance. 13, 10 and 6 I think. But there were several plays that were set up by his perfect screens. As usual, there were more than a handful of failed assists from either a blown shot or a foul breaking up the shot (including the brilliant behind the back pass where Braun got stuffed instead of just going for a reverse). The other thing that happens because of the way Jokic plays is that his unselfishness is contagious. Even Porter is getting some assists now. The Nuggets now remind me a bit of my beloved 69-70 Knicks, and of the 2014 Spurs, playing wonderful team basketball.

I said it was (is) understandable from a team perspective but the way it goes down sometimes seems to be just 'wrong'. Especially with rebounds. Guy does everything the ball is like half a feet from his hands and there comes some small player that had absolutely nothing to do with the defensive position and just grabs is literally out of his hands. Porter is not small but does it at least 2-3 times on average. From Jokic' point of view I do understand it. It makes the team happy, okay. Helps chemistry, fine. What I'd sometimes like to know is what 'a christianbraun' thinks when it's 'his' board. Sure, if it works... I'm okay with it. I think I wouldn't 'take away' a rebound this way... but I'm not there competing so I really don't know. I'm not a stat-freak but it is disturbing that I care more about Jokic' numbers than he himself does. Who is right here? He is, obviously. I know that. Still hard to grasp. ;-)

Yeah, I understand. Sometimes, it may be that when the smaller guy gets it, he will get it up the court faster, allowing Jokic to trail. When he gets his own board, he’s more likely to lead the transition. Much as I like Jokic, and as good as he is at passing, he doesn’t seem to excel at the quick outlet pass after a board (Not like Russell, or Walton, or Unseld, or even Kevin Love). You see them once in a while, but it just doesn’t seem to be the way Denver pushes in transition.

Because he's god awful at everything else. Jimmer's such a good shooter. Why isn't he still in the league? Same shit. Rebounding bigs are also less valuable in an era where half the boards are bouncing 15 feet away from the basket because they're coming after 3pt attempts.

Hes an old school rebounding specialist in a league that removed most of the true power forwards, and even the tough tweener small forwards for the most part. He’s a great rebounder, but maybe not as great as he looks with the league built as it is. His per 100 is about like Spurs Rodman. But then you remember Rodman was playing next to David Robinson who led the league in rebounds himself at one point. Guys like that won’t generally play together anymore.

If you start a guy like Michael Cage, right now, he might get 23 rebounds, but he would be so out of place for the rest of the game it would be a net loss to play him enough to get those rebounds.

Yeah Towns is eating into Gobert's defensive rebounds.
