View Full Version : Someone please tell me why I don't like this Celtics team

Because I don't know. I don't hate any players on the team. Their basketball is watchable. The team is winning. It's just for some reason isn't interesting to me. I wouldn't mind if I found it more interesting, I'd actually tune in for more of their games. So what am I not seeing that's there? Why should one watch this team? What am I missing?

It's Tatum, he is so boring.

They should trade Tatum for Durant.

Well, he certainly isn't electrifying, but there are more people there. I actually like Horford. No problem with Porzingis and Brown. It was more flavor when Rozier and Smart played, especially the latter. But I'm not sure why I just don't care. I didn't mind if I would.

For me there is nothing not to like and nothing to really like at the same time. I found myself NOT opting for the Celtics game and watch the Pelicans or the Hawks instead. Two teams I don't especially follow. I realized I just don't care if the Celtics win or lose. I know it's a good team but I don't know why I should watch them.

They have been contenders for a long time but haven't broken through so people aren't going to be that interested in their regular season success.

I watch them when they are playing a team i like. But i don't make it a point to watch them.

I wonder how awkward this stuff is for players these days. You got people in the media who resist some players because theyre white. Fans on the internet who hate some players cuz theyre black.

Rather than just being cheered by your city and boo'd by opposing cities, youre also being cheered by one race and rooted against by another. Anything you do, good or bad, is gonna end up as some twitter user's "told ya so" in some thread about race.

Super awkward tbh.

In the old days players just wouldnt hear these conversations constantly and probably didnt think about it as much. Nowadays if youre on the internet it's just everywhere.

That's not a bad answer at all. I'm not sure about the toaster thing but I've so far never really given it a deep enough... thought. Me being screwed up is as good an answer as any. However, you seem to be qualified for this: what is there to like in the Celtics in your opinion if you are not from the area or haven't been a long time fan?

I'm not bothering with an argument about "dawg." The Celtics have t be best record in the league. Tatum has done his job to th he best of his ability as frequently as anyone. I don't think people like you are ever going to stop saying that regardless of what happens. Fortunately it doesn't truly matter.

I think they are like the early 2000s Kings or Blazers in that they are the deepest and most well-rounded team, but I could see them losing somewhere along the way to a team with the best player/players on the floor at the top end.

But then again, the 2000 Blazers and 02 Kings both could have won if literally one or two things broke their way. So maybe it'll happen for the Celtics.

Lack of agendas to create if they win the title maybe? I would understand that. If 76ers were to win the title, there would be a lot to talk about, mainly about Embiid. Embiid, Jokic and Giannis comparisons would go wild. Bucks winning would start some interesting convos. Insidehoops servers would be destroyed if Timberwolves were to win. Xiao would wreak havoc. Would be fun. Nuggets with Jokic are always interesting. OKC are super young and SGA would cement himself as one of the top dogs in the league. Clippers have too many players that would really appreciate a ring. Mavericks winning would be insane to watch. That would be extremely entertaining as a basketball fan. However if Celtics were to win, it would be very predictable. They have the best starting 5 by far imo. Their front office has been stellar for a decade now and that title would be won in summer rather than on the court. Tatum would definitely win the fmvp with a decent performance and his fmvp speech would extremely bland featuring his son. Tbh i do want to see them in the finals. Last year Heat in the finals left a bad taste in my mouth. It looked like they didn't belong there. They were desperate.

Wolves in the conference finals would be enough to destroy some lives here

Absolutely possible. It rhymes with the 'I just don't care if they win or lose' attitude of mine. Then again, if I watched them more I'd probably care more. So the question is: what is the real reason for watching the team (if you are not a fan).

I think indifferent is the right word. I generally don't root for or against the Celtics going back a long time.

I did root for them to make the finals last year because I thought it would be a more interesting finals. I rooted against them when they actually made the finals. Whatevs.

It is Browns team , but Tatum gets credit for his hero ball.
Their bench is Pritch , and that is about it.
They are beatable IMO

Tatum acts and plays like a MF robot.

Uni-rythm, predictable, boring, but very good.
But I can’t understand how MF wanna tune into watching him.

I’m gonna send a hilarious email to BOSTON DYNAMICS on some Alex jones sh!t.

They still have a stigma of losing close games. Especially in the playoffs.

Until that changes, I can see people continuing to not like them, or not appreciate what they're doing this season.

Because while they have an awesome team and might just win the title, if any of them get hurt, their team will take a harder hit than the teams that are more dependent on a single person.

Might be a bit contradictory, but part of what I'm saying is they aren't so far and away ahead of everyone else that they can afford to lose players.

If I were to guess I'd say it's because they don't have Marcus Smart & Grant Williams anymore. Those guys were funny and likeable, they also played with a lot of heart. Tatum & Brown are just boring and I don't care much for KP either tbh.

I wouldn't see that as a reason to like or dislike a team. Also for any contender there is a list of at least three players where if any one of them goes down they won't win the championship.

Because Marcus Smart was the heart of that team...

The funny thing is, when they lost to the Heat a lot of people said they had no heart. But now Smart was the heart of the team? I will say that from the outside he looked like he had the strongest personality but I question how much that matters when this is the best the team has ever been in Tatum and Brown's era.

Does a team need a personality? This Celtics team is good. They just go out, play winning basketball, then onto the next one. Brad made the right moves to put the players around Tatum and Brown, that hopefully ends in a championship.

Interesting question. For me to care, yes. For winning in the regular season probably not. For the fans... I think a team needs personality or at least one player who they are interested in personally. Unless you are a purist who just watches a game and that's it, you usually need a story that you follow.

When Celtics played Minny last night , I really thought Tatum had his best game in his career. No jumpers to act like a hero baller.

He drove the ball to the hole time after time , and acted like this was his business.
(pulled up some slack that brown was letting out)

Good OT win over Minny
