Over the years I've seen threads on here about fasting, but I always thought that was a crazy Muzzie thing, but now I'm watching clips on IG about fasting for weight loss and I'm curious on how that works. I've heard that you can eat anything you want and as much as you want, but eat nothing past 6pm or 8pm and then don't eat again until you wake up the next morning. So at least 12-14 hours between meals. Is this true? Has anyone done this? How much weight have you lost?

If you have the patience this Huberman Pod is a good source:

Intermittent fasting where you restrict your eating to a certain window lets say 16/8 where you allow yourself to eat from 12-8pm and then fast for 16 hours or more extreme forms of fasting like omad (one meal a day)

It works and have lost 30 pounds in 2 months with intermittent fasting along with other benefits from fasting

What do you for cravings after 8pm? Drink water?

And it'll probably be tougher for me cause I go to bed super late sometimes. Sometimes I'm still up at 2am. So the longer I'm up, the hungrier I will get.

I'm going to start today. I had a super breakfast at around 11am, and I'm going to try to hold off for dinner till around 6pm.

"Crazy Muzzie thing" :oldlol:

Well for starters, fasting helps boost metabolic rate. Since your body is taking a break from digesting food while fasting, this increases your metabolic rate which further helps you burn more calories. You also reduce caloric intake with a smaller eating window and as long as you're under your maintenance calories, you're bound to lose weight gradually over time.

The best part about intermittent fasting is that is promotes fat loss over muscle loss. Studies have shown that intermittent fasting is more effective at retaining muscle mass compared to regular, continuous calorie restriction.

Pickles, cottage cheese, popcorn (no butter), frozen berries, and rice cakes are all filling, low calorie snacks if you get cravings past dinner time.

So what about the kind of food that you eat during eating hours. I saw a video where they were saying you could eat anything you wanted like burgers and pizza, etc. Is that true? Or should you still combine fasting with a sensible diet?

I'm only trying this cause I eat salads and drink protein shakes while lifting and I only see the pounds going up, not down.

Technically you can eat anything as long as you stay under your caloric maintenance. Say for example that you need to eat 2500 calories daily to maintain your weight. If you eat ~300 less calories per day, you're going to lose weight regardless of what you eat. The only problem with pizza and burgers is that you'd be consuming foods that are packed with calories and are low in nutrients. That results in more of a skinny-fat look if you're going to lose weight on a poor diet.

Instead focus on a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Things like chicken, fish, eggs, sweet potatoes, nuts, berries, apples, bananas, green veggies, greek yogurt, and oats. A cheat meal is fine once or twice a week.

I would also highly recommend getting a food weight scale and measuring your food in grams/ounces and then entering it in the MyFitnessPal app. It doesn't take that long and you get a good idea of how many calories you're eating on a daily basis, as well as your macros like protein, carbs, and fats.

If you can not eat dinner too late then skip breakfast then you have 16 hours by lunch time

That’s probably the easiest way to do it.

I don’t know the science behind it really. I think it effects your metabolism and also obviously lowers your total calorie intake

16 hours sounds brutal. But I will give it a go fellas. If you don't see me on this board in a few days, it's probably cause my sugar levels dropped and fell into a coma.

You will probably be getting kinda hungry coming close to lunch time but it shouldn’t be too bad. Drink water.

I'm uneducated, but don't do it. The body likes rhythm, imo. I don't think putting your body into shock in most cases is a good idea, not in regards to nutrients. You can get some metabolic disorder or you can just make your body start conserving calories (slow your metabolism) and then blast it with food. I've had times in my life when I didn't eat much then just ate a big dinner or whatever then fell out cuz of the way life was, but whenever I wanted to drop like 10-15 pounds, I just ate less.

It's simple. Stop drinking, stop with sugar beverages... people end up like eee but I don't wanna change my life, actually losing weight requires life style changes. If you have a pretty good set up already but slipped, it's different, but usually you need to lay a foundation.

Anyway, it's probably too much, and it's probably bad, too, but I'd just roughly cut my portion size in half. Cuz I def love eating, even tho I'm not a big dude. Two bowls of cereal, nah, have one, etc.

Small meals of healthy food, keep fueling your body. Think of food as fuel to survive. You can eat what you want sometimes. By eating what you want, I mean like eating ass out, but you'll find that once you change your habits enough that sort of eating will actually make you sick haha. Then it's like HMMM.

But you wanna slam a big ass piece of cake in the middle of the day or whatever, do it! As long as your overall eating is good. The reason diet is such a huge industry is because people think it's a short term thing. It's a lifestyle choice. It's totally worth it, though. I mean, I imagine it is haha. I've def gotten pudgy some times when I smoked and was lazy, but I've never been really overweight.

If you are overweight and get a lot of exercise, I think it's OK, but if you don't, you are in a tough spot health wise and are probably gonna decline fast as you get a little older.

Again, this is a total hot take just from my life experience.

Intermittent fasting works very well when combined with a low-carb diet. You dont have to go Atkins-diet low either.

Here to help ... I want Patsy off the forum , but not dead.

When I was in Karate for 8-9 years , I'd fast every Wednesday .

That means Tuesday evening last time I would eat and drink until Thursday morning.
Key was getting all the poisons out of your system.
Vicious acidic craps , but lose about 2-3 pounds.

Obviously the 6 days you eat and drink , only healthy , and not more like a front end loader.

Eating and drinking is mind over matter ... First time hunger occurs its tough to block , but then it is easy.
I fasted for 3 days straight one time , when I was practicing Yoga.

What's the longest you have gone without a meal?

Sparkling water helps and after a while your cravings go away as your body adjusts to fasting

High protein foods are the most satieting and keep you full the longest l, make sure your total protein intake is at least 100g

It's called intermittent fasting. The most common way is 16 hours after last meal. The original idea is not for weight loss but for cell regeneration. However, many people find having limited eating window naturally helps them to eat less, therefore promoting weight loss. I say just eat normally during the eating window. Eat what you think is normal food to eat and avoid what you think is too unhealthy. We all know what those are.

IF is a gimmick.
You eat less, so you drop weight.

It isn’t all about weight loss.

It’s about clearing your body through natural cycles.

Eating 3 meals a day. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner is literally the definition of a capitalist gimmick diet.

Lmao.
