View Full Version : What's the most annoying and useless word in the English language?

I have a hard time finding anything more useless than the word "Basically"

I had an ex who was a little on the ghetto side and she would say this word almost always in a conversation. And every time I would hear it, I would cringe. The word is useless. What is the point of using "basically" in a sentence? What does it even mean?

Example: "I basically ran into them at the store." Basically? You either did or you didn't! Which one is it??

The other useless word that people add to a conversation is when they include the word "like" when talking to someone or describing something.

I def use those words, but I have found literally is a word drunk people lean on a lot. Take that as you will. People who consistently say LITERALLY are prol drunk.

Basically is necessary because people need a basic summation of what you are saying a lot of the times. Basically, you ****ed up!

A friend used to tease me because I'd say "kinda... but not really." He'd be like oh so it's like this, and it's like... yeah kinda, but not really. haha. Words are fun.

They're not useless, but often used wrong or in case of literally many people use it when they actually mean the opposite of it.

Irregardless

That’s another one I catch. And is it irregardless or regardless? Another useless word that we don’t need.

All adverbs. Often unnecessary. I have been trying hard to limit my use of adverbs too.

The most annoying and useless shit is complaining about the way people talk. If “basic” ass language upsets you? **** off.
