Do one of the Dozens of advanced stats account for the difference in expectations of your defensive assignment? Like if I refuse to guard the other teams best player and I only stick to shooters? If they shoot 40% from three is there a stat that shows I’m actually giving up a better percentage than I should be?

I’m sure somebody could work out the percentage of shots you defend The other teams leading scorer and sorted in such a way to show who it is youre usually on by like….expected opponent production….but is there something already in place to do that?

If no someone do it and call it the “Bowen scale”. I want to know what opponents shoot compared to what they usually shoot and sorted by the normal production of your average defensive assignment. Call the second part your Hidden rate.

Find a way to combine the Bowen rate and the Hidden rate and I would be interested in that list.

1) What is the distribution of 2pt vs. 3pt shots that he's guarding and how does he do at each type? Maybe break it down by shot distance the way NBA.com does.

2) What caliber of players is he typically guarding?

3) How many shots is he contesting per game compared to other good defenders? In other words what is his defensive usage?
