Of course conventional coaching from the bench can shade a team’s prospects up or down from the expected outcome, but the majority of a team’s results comes from player talent, chemistry, and effort.
With that said, some players take on disproportionate levels of leadership ON the court, and do so for 21 straight years. They boost cohesiveness and morale. They instruct guys on assignments, they analyze opponents during the game and keep teammates briefed on evolving strategy.
Could a player like that, and I’m not thinking of anyone in particular or have anyone specific in mind, but would you consider it reasonable to call a player like that the GOAT LeCoach?
Could the consensus GOAT LeCoach be someone who is still technically a rostered player?
Serious discussion only, no agendas please.

He will only coach if you can get PJ, Pop, Pat Riley, and Erik Spoelstra on the staff

we have seen what lebron has done coaching....he sucks.....hes a top 10 player ALL TIME. Dont get fooled into his longevity stats or the media. Real players know hes not one of the GOATS despite his stats.

Not only reasonable but at this point outright necessary. Honestly, this question was posed way too late. Had he been officially named coach of not only the Lakers but the whole NBA yesterday, it still would've been quite late.

It's absolutely reasonable to consider an active player as the GOAT coach. However, for that to happen, said coach would have to actually, you know, WIN.
If you take an active player/coach who in the last four seasons has a first round exit, leads a SUPER TEAM to the LOTTERY, gets swepted by a one star team, and fights for a play-in spot....well, that player/coach just needs to be FIRED. :confusedshrug:
