View Full Version : Bronny is when HYPE meets REALITY

I've been saying it for 2 years, but this dude is not close to the hype (lottery pick).
There is a legit large fanbase of Bronny that thinks he DESERVES to AUTOMATICALLY be in the NBA. No questions asked. They would put him in the league tomorrow. Just because of who he is and people oddly developed an emotionally attachment to the hype.
People tried to say Bronny was 6'5 or 6'6 2 years ago . He is 6'3 at most.
And my past critiques of him are still very accurate - from August 2022 - "Bronny is not an NBA talent. He can be a good college player and be decent in pro leagues overseas. He can jump high, has a decent shot, and is a team player...but in game movement ability with the ball is subpar considering he is 6'3 at MOST. He needs a WAY better handle and better explosiveness while dribbling. With his in-game movement ability, he needs to be an absolutely elite shooter on-ball and off-ball, but he isn't."
Basically, the guy doesn't have any elite skill or elite size/athleticism to rely on. He's just a role player/connector even on the college level. Maybe he improves but no way he should be a one and done this year.
Currently averaging just 6/3/2 on 38/25/64 splits. And before anyone leans on the "cardiac arrest excuse", well that actually makes him an even worse prospect now. It doesn't excuse his poor play.

I'm not convinced he'll even make the NBA. I mean a team will draft him or pick him up but I can see him playing some games in the G league but never actually seeing an NBA floor.

Has there ever been a case of an all time legends son becoming great as well?
Kobes dad was nice but not an all time great at all. Currys dad was nice but a role player. Jordan's kids never came close.
It takes like 1 in a billion odds to be a true all time great so coming from such a small sample size of other greats as their offspring means your chances are probably still 1 in a million since there's so few of them.

He should spend another year in college to refine his skills, he's not NBA ready yet

Would be interesting if he had a sudden growth spurt.

Sabonis is probably the closest to this happening.

I will not be surprised at all to see him on the floor with Lebron, simply because Lebron and the NBA want it to happen. Could even just be Bronny on a 10-day contract, but that's all it takes. The "legendary" moment will be hollowed because it will be a forced situation, not an earned one.
I will say, maybe Bronny proves me wrong and makes huge leaps over the next to years.

Yeah, I was going to say Sabonis is the only one that I can think of too.

Less than 5000 people have ever played in an NBA game. It's no shame if he doesn't make it.
I agree with the sentiment that he needs to develop more in college.

In a lot of people's minds, it will be some kind of massive conspiracy against Bronny if he isn't a lottery pick in the NEXT draft. We got a lot of crazies out there.

Dell Curry in the 90s and early 00s was considered one of the best shooters of all time. But that's it, just a shooter. People forget elite shooters

I took it as being a legend?
Lots of players better than their parent, but not from the big names. Not from the superstars.

If Austin Rivers could make the league, then Bronny can too.

I think there's so few NBA legends who even had kids make it to the NBA.
Rick Barry
Ewing
Mikan
Payton
Pippen
Sabonis
Stockton
Bill Walton
Tim Hardaway (maybe a legend?)
That's about the pool. Interestingly more than half are white though in a predominantly black sport.

We will see, I don't watch high school kids so I couldn't say if the hype was warranted or not. BUT, it's kinda messed up how much shit is being piled on a kid that had a cardiac event just a few months back regardless of who's kid he is. Imo it's crazy he's even on the floor, but I'd imagine that makes you play with a bit of restraint/tentativity upon return. Maybe he'll get better as he gets his confidence back and If he plays to any level of worth he'll be drafted, point blank, the narrative has been set.

Its stupid as ****.
The worde hype has the connotation with it that its not reality, just hype.
So saying it meets reality woud be interpreted as actually living up to the hype.

No, you're just borderline illiterate. Everyone sees that title and sees that the OP means the Bronny hype getting a reality check where it's obvious he's just not that good - this year anyway.
Glad to help educate you.

What's unfair is that Bronny is getting extra hate because he's being covered a lot by the media and because he hasn't been "amazing" yet at the college level. Unreal expectations and extra media coverage have been set on him because of his status as LeBron's oldest son.
I also think it was stupid of LeBron to explicitly say many times that he wants to play with Bronny in the NBA. He unintentionally put a lot more pressure on Bronny to make it to the league and that just made people want to track Bronny more closely to see if he's NBA-level good.

This is a great post of how wrong people's assessment of the Bronny situation is.
1. Bronny is not a "kid", he's 19. Everyone needs to stop acting like Bronny is still 12. He's on a scholarship playing basketball in college. He DOES deserve sympathy for the cardiac event however, as does anyone at any age going through that.
2. People are NOT shitting on Bronny. They are shitting on Bronny's rabid fan base who keep claiming that he is a "clear" lottery pick currently AND they also keep acting like Bronny is a "kid" so discussing the weaknesses in his game is "off-limits". This is what is happening.

1.Perhaps we're in 2 different phases of life, in my eyes a 19 year old is a baby that still has a way to go before truly understanding manhood.
2. They are absolutely shitting on him when he's getting booed everytime he touches the ball in a college game like he's Vince or Kawhi. He literally became a starter within the last couple of games lol. What has he done to earn that?
3. My assessment is what it is, my opinion and I feel like it's a bit much for a kid that everyone claims isn't good enough for the hype. Apparently being Lebron's son isn't making it easier for him.
