It's only a matter of time. Who will it be?

Prolly that dude who just dropped 73 on 33 shots

Lerbrawn Jaimes.

I think the usual suspects but a dark horse I'd like to throw out would be Jamal Murray if he were on a worse team.

Probably Luka out of all players. He's the one in the best situation for that to happen with the Mavs not having that many weapons and with him playing a ball-dominant style of basketball. He's only 24 as well so he's not even at his peak yet.

The guy that's often given free reign to stat pad 'till his hearts content (Luka)

I realized now I haven’t even seen the highlights of Embiids 70. I saw a couple clips on espn but shot by shot? No. There was a topic on why people ignored AD having a 40/20 game and in it I wondering what it would take to get my immediate attention just off the stats these days.

I figured 70 would do it. But no.

I care. I care enough I checked the box score when I saw the games trending…but I’ve not seen the clips.

When Kobe had 81 and the game got replayed I actually recorded it. I took out a VHS and recorded it. I actually still have the tape because someone I know was arrested for murder around the same time, and I recorded the local news story over a portion of the 81 point game. Didn’t have time to find another tape.

I was recording a game for the history of it so I could watch it back.

I don’t know if I’m a lesser fan these days or if I’m just fully burnt out on wild stat lines.

I was just looking for a topic from a year(or more) ago where somebody(RR3 I believe) was Complaining that people couldn’t just say such and such had a great game and had to bring up what has changed. All I found was one from a bit after that with him doing the same thing he was complaining about saying the number of these games has diluted it and it’s hard to care anymore. That was when Klay had 54 or so.

Has anyone here not reached that point yet? Does anyone still rush to the TV to see what’s going on?

Or are we all jaded? This is the point I made at the time

When Wilt was doing 50/27, Baylor 38/19, Pettit 30/19, Oscar 30/12/11, Russell 20/25, and even guys you never heard of like Richie Guerin do 30 a game…do you think the newspaper still reported on 48 point games like it would 10 years earlier?

There comes a point it’s just….

It’s never unimpressive but it does reach a point you don’t need to hear it anymore.

At what point is 40-50 just not worth talking about like a big deal?

Are we back to the 60s?

Does a 50 point game even raise an eyebrow at this point?

Am I just being a hater to not care that much?

not like I’m saying the players aren’t great. I just can’t keep making a big deal out of something I see all the time. I was annoying some people with that a year ago.

Is anyone NOT there yet?

I can think of a couple who aren’t but it feels like I’m way less alone right now.

What made Kobe's 81 point game so random was that it was the same day as the NFL Conference Championship games. I specifically remember watching the Steelers beating the Broncos, then a few hours later I got notified that Kobe was in a middle of a 70+ point game.

Fella might mess around and actually do it in the playoffs.

Ive called him a shorter Kobe on here before and I stand by it.

It will likely never be broken even though today's teams shoot and score way more than the 06 Lakers.

I don't know, bro. Players are getting way too close. Someone is going to do it.

If Luka gunned for it he would've had it today in regulation. Had it gone to OT? Wilt would be in the crosshairs.

If my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle. It's just a hard mark to hit. 70 is already tough... 80+ takes an unbelievable hot streak.

Pretty sure someone does 81+ points in the next couple of seasons. The playoff record of 63 is also in jeopardy IMO. It's just easy to score the ball these days. Booker just had 62 and no one even mentioned it.

This garbage ass league have teams scoring 150 points a game.

Play some defense. I miss the days of 80 to 90 point games

People doing 70 way too easily to say 80 isn’t going to happen. The league isn’t going to go back to what it was. Math says give the star the ball every play and spread the floor for him. Someone’s gonna get 80.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if some scrub or second-rate guy did it? Like a Tim Hardaway Jr, Colin Sexton, or a Jordan Clarkson. Or that guy for Brooklyn. Maybe even Jordan Poole.

Your aunt can't put up more shots to turn into your uncle so that's an idiotic statement. Luka had the energy to do 80 tonight.

Dude, we've had three 70-point games just THIS WEEK. Someone's going to top 81 sooner or later.

Might even be Wembanyama.

You could break it down to like 32 points from 10 threes and a couple of four-point plays, 16 points from free-throws, and 34 points from 17 two-point baskets. Would give you 82 points.

10/14 3PT
18/20 FT
17/24 2PT

Wemby will probably do 50 points this season. Or close to it.

Four 70 point games in the span of 12 months. Dame, Mitchell, Embiid, Luka.

One in the 70s (Thompson)

I think it was one in the 90s (Robinson)

One in the 00s (Kobe)

One in the 10 (Booker)

Four in 12 months

Key word is teams there. Luka leads the league and is taking 4 less shots than Kobe in 06.

Stars play less minutes and the ball is spread around more.

Sexton isn't 2nd rate. The Bum would need 60 shots minimum. Be uglier than Kobe's final game

I think another part is information and thus games being available anywhere anytime. Someone drops 70? You can watch the full game 10 years later. 20 years ago you had to watch it or atleast the highlights else you wouldn't have seen it.

Luka had 70 with 3 minutes left and Dallas up 137-127. 82 was doable and he probably had more reason to stay in because it wa a 6 point game when he got to 73 with a minute left. For Kobes 81 when he got to 70 the Lakers were up by 15 with under 5 minutes left and were likely no real threat to lose at that point. The last 4 minutes or so became a 'what's his final tally gonna be' meta-game.

Embiid will have a better chance at doing it, because he’ll actively seek to do it.

But then just days/weeks later, Luka will do it again lol

Some good scorer on a bad team. Most likely a guy who doesn't play much defense. So someone like Donovan Mitchell.
