View Full Version : This also kinda shows why Kyrie next to Luka really doesnt make sense

Kyrie isnt just a volume scorer, he’s a very good scorer, and this isnt a thread taking away from him, BUT:
He’s not a plus in any way besides scoring. Weak defender, average playmaker, irrelevant rebounder.
Theres only one ball, so if you have a guy that can score 73 (SEVENTY-THREE) on the wing, you dont really need another one dimensional scoring wing next to him. It is redundant and inefficient to split the ball up between them when you could just have one primary scorer, and an additional guy who’s better at finishing lobs, playing defense, etc etc. It’s different if it’s a big and a wing together, but two wings with the same iso game is flatly illogical and counterproductive IMO.
I know that people who LIKE both these guys wanna see it work. And I’m not saying it’s impossible. What Im saying is if you wanna play the math, it is probably not the BEST approach to take.

Lauri Markannen would be dope with Luka. And OG Anunoby. Then again, every player would.

Unfortunatley I dont think either of those teams are in the Ree market.
Altho maybe with a three or four team trade who knows.

“Very strong” feels… very strong.
Id say theyve been fine. Which I concede. I just dont think it’s optimal.
Just my opinion.

Well sure if you want to play by the Math if one guy produces great results there’s no reason to give anybody else the ball. That’s how we get so many heliocentric offenses these days. It’s what Dantoni did with Harden even while admitting he didn’t like the style of play. But thus far there seems to be a ceiling. Till somebody monopolizes the ball and guns his way to a title without a good scoring other guy or two teams are probably going to try to get that guy some help. Steph had Klay at least and even last time had Klay, Wiggins, and Poole who all did 17-19.
Luka minus Kyrie would have Timmys kid. He could maybe give you 18-19 if you asked him in the playoffs.
That it?
That can’t be it.
You probably need both Kyrie and Hardaway just to keep teams from climbing in Luka’s jersey and making the refs call fouls in the playoffs.
Keeping Brunson would have helped.

Irrelevant rebounder? He's been averaging 5+ for 5 years now. For a guy his size that's really good, and he's been a solid defender over the past few years and does a good job moving the ball when he's asked to.
Kyrie gives the Mavs another scoring option, forces the defense to be more honest. You need that in today's NBA with how easy scoring is. Luka can't give you 40 every game and also do all the playmaking at the same time.

Well the Bucks did it, even if (as Ive argued) it was a bit of a flukey run.
And as I said, it’s a different dynamic if you have a wing and a big (lebron and ad, murray and joker) who are both big scorers.
But two primary scorers in the backcourt? This is what the Hawks tried to do on a smaller scale just a year and a half ago and now Dejounte is already on the trade block.
It just… isnt the OPTIMAL approach.
Brunson was a bit different because hes a tougher, smarter player than Ree and Murray. He can impact the game without scoring 30. But a guy who only, ONLY is a positive in any way if he puts in 30 points is basically just taking up two spots on the court to do one man’s job. It aint optimal.

It's insane how much better Kyrie looked while playing with LeBron than Luka...

Luka doesn't have the stamina to do stuff like this over and over. His ankle is already sprained. He would break down if he didn't have somebody to carry some of the load here and there.
Kyrie was averaging like 40 when he was out with a winning record.

Brunson and and Kyrie literally have identical productions. Kyrie averages 1 more board per game and Brunson 1 more assist per game. Brunson is not a good defender... kyries actually probably better on that end. They're similar level players tbh. Acting like Brunson is way better is retarded.

Okay but that somebody could be a Brunson, or a big man, somebody who at least makes them a little more well rounded when theyre TOGETHER, and can also pick up some slack when Luka’s out.
Obviously the Brunson ship has sailed and I dunno who else they could realistically get. I just still feel that in theory, Kyrie is pretty much the worst fit possible among any remotely high profile players.

This is box score whoring at its finest.
Brunson was instrumenta in the Mavs conference finals run as the second option, then overachieved last year with the Knicks as first option. Kyrie on the other hand underachieves EVERYWHERE he plays except with LeDaddy.
And if I didnt have access to that info and only went by eye test Id tell you the exact same. Brunson is tough and gritty and makes winning plays. Kyrie is flashy and dandy, a poor man’s Curry.
The difference between them is in the eye test not the box score, perhaps thats why so few people can see it.

Kyrie doesn't gel on the court with this team as well as he did in Cleveland. It's clear as day.
It's hilarious seeing guys who think Silver ruined the league sucking off players over stats though. Guys have been pissed because ATL didn't send Luka to the line at the end of that game. They wanted his numbers to look more impressive regardless of how meaningless they were. :oldlol:
GTFO. Fans are ruining the league. Not Silver...

It's not the same, when Kris has the ball Giannis can work as a rim runner playing off him.
Neither Luka nor Ree are rim runners. Their games do not complement each other, it's just taking turns.
