View Full Version : Do you miss the offensive diversity of the game in the past?

You used to have all sorts of schemes in the past, both motion and set offenses. The '00s had Princeton/Modified-Princeton (Sacramento, New Jersey Nets, Washington), Flex (Utah/Jerry Sloan), Triangle (LA/Phil Jackson & Tex Winter), Spread PnR/4-out-1-in (Orlando, Phoenix, GSW), etc...

Sure, plenty of those offenses are still seen in limited and modified fashion today. But because of the clear "meta-strategy" prevalent in today's NBA, you don't see them as fully committed offensive game plans. And that sucks in my opinion. It's one aspect where college ball is superior.

Things were nice from the mid-to-late '00s to the early-to-mid '10s. A more balanced league average shot profile. Yeah, the hand-checking was taken out and past-their-prime guys like Iverson were setting career highs, but it was better than this monotony. In my opinion of course.

Yes.

Late 2000s/early 2010s was the perfect sweet spot between the two eras IMO.

100%

I used to like the Eastern playoffs during that stretch. Boston, Cleveland, Orlando. All had different styles and the matchups were interesting

yep. Plumbers had a more diverse game too. Wasn't just about pace, 3's or getting to the rim

Loved watching those playoffs around that time. Sometimes I'll find a game from then on Youtube and just sit and enjoy.

I think cultural diversity is more important. I'd love to see more Mongolians in the NBA.

He was strong! Threw Shaq to the ground once. And he also shot threes in International competition.

I watched him a lot in the Chinese league. Reminded me of a poor man's papa Sabonis. Very skilled once he walked slowly into the frontcourt
