View Full Version : How much do you think Karl Malone weighed?

He was listed at 256 pounds and 5% body fat percentage in a 1987 SI article. I feel like he had to be damn-near 280 in the late '90s and early '00s. It always felt like a bit of an exaggeration when people said LeBron was as big as Karl Malone. Maybe the younger version in the late '80s. But definitely not the MVP one.

If Lebron is 250 then late 90s Malone is probably 300.

Malone was significantly bigger than Lebron. Malone was closer to Shaq than to Lebron in weight imo.

I wanna say LeBron was measured at 254 during the 2004 Olympics. And there was a reporter who covered the Cavs who claimed to be in the facility When he weighed in at 273 at his biggest. A 20 Pound swing for somebody his height isn’t that noticeable. Regular people can be seven or 8 pounds different just depending on how hydrated they are. So I can accept LeBron was once about 270 and that late career Karl was about that size or a little bigger.

They all look lot more muscular next to traditionally lanky basketball players than when they stand next to other people who work out though. When was wrestling he didn’t look particularly musclebound. He just looked long as hell.

they carry a lot of weight just off the height.

Lebron has thicker legs than Malone and legs make up most of your weight.

Plus Lebron has three of them.

Yeah legs and core are most of your weight, but people just look at biceps because that’s what you can see. A lot of basketball players are toothpicks with arms attached.

Lebrons shoulders are also extremely impressive. He has super hero deltoids.

You just have to use common sense here.

Karl Malone could guard centers and would no doubt be a center today, Lebron has struggled to guard power forwards like David West and gets ragdolled by a proper center like Jokic.

There's no way MVP Malone wasn't like 270-280.

There's 6'2 slobs in the UFC that weigh 270. And we know muscle weighs more than fat.

I could believe the fast, more fastbreak/transition oriented Malone of the late 80's being closer to 260 or so.

LeBron's a weird one. He's definitely bigger than the average wing in his prime, but 40 pounds heavier? However Miami LeBron in the middle of the stint was visibly bigger than Tim Duncan in the 13 finals. Humongous size for a SF.

He'd play some center but the 4 would still be the best spot for him

Oakley somewhat insinuated Malone was juiced, after Barkley insinuated Oakley was juiced.

I think it's in this interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFpE0M0hWJE

He'd play a role similar to Serge Ibaka did later in his career including shooting 3 pointers.

Ibaka blocked shots. Malone didn't. Great defender. Not a rim protector

True, but in terms of decent defensive anchor and mobile help defender, then yes, you could easily run Malone and he wouldn't be a liability against 90% of the current league. Only would struggle against the biggest centers like Embiid and Jokic.

And on offense, he'd absolutely kill with the mismatches, too quick for the centers, to strong, for the small ball centers.

Malone was built to guard guys like Jokic and Embiid and would do a better job than most dpoy level bigmen

Old man Malone couldn't sniff 250. Muscle weighs a lot

2 men from that era you wouldn't want to cross paths in a dark alley. Dale Davis and Karl Malone

Ron Artest was a muscle-bound 270 pounds in Houston (https://www.chron.com/sports/rockets/article/artest-set-to-play-wherever-needed-for-rockets-1758981.php#:~:text=so%20Artest%20took%20off%20in% 20a%20sprint%20to%20the%20other%20end%20of%20the%2 0floor%20to%20put%20his%20nearly%20270%20pounds%20 in%20front%20of%20Brooks.). He also had some very long arms and no neck. I think he was the same height and has the same wingspan as Kawhi. Man, what a physical specimen! You won't find many small forwards that robust.
