Why on earth would the Cavs do this?

Detroit would NOT make that trade.

Yeah and that’s why they’re so bad.

Remind me again why exactly a rebuilding team should trade for older and higher paid players at the core of the trade rather than keep guys still on rookie contracts?

Referring to Garland (turned 24 12 days ago) and Mobley (22) as old is certainly a choice. Garland is a proven allstar and likely will be able to do more than he’s showing without playing next to another ball dominant guard in Mitchell if he gets his own team. Mobley is one of the best defenders in the league and he’ll give you an efficient 16/10. Considering he’s only a year and a half older than the Pistons top draft pick I doubt he’s done developing either.

Cade so far has looked pretty bad and lacks athleticism which is really bad when you aren’t a good shooter. Thompson is a great prospect but he’s unlikely to ever be as good as Garland or Mobley will be. Stewart is your average backup big and Bogdanovic is old and plays horrible defense. Clear win for the Cavs.

Garland is 24, Cade is 22. There's at least some chance that Cade keeps getting better and surpasses Garland in 2 years. Garland makes $34M, Cade $11M.

Mobley will soon be 23, Thompson just turned 21. There's at least some chance that Thompson keeps getting better and surpasses Mobley in 2 years. Mobley makes $9M, Thompson $8M.

For a rebuilding team that's probably 2 years away from trying to win, why not take advantage of the 2 year age gaps between both players? Pretty simple and logical decision. :confusedshrug:

Because Cade is in year 3 and still stinks and his player profile isn’t particularly appealing and the other two guys are proven to be huge assets who are going to improve as well. You don’t keep the younger players just because they’re younger. Guarantee the Cavs would hang up the phone if the Pistons offered this.

I’ve got a trade idea!! Detroit sends Killian Hayes, Joe Dumars, Danilo Galinari, Joe Harris and James Wiseman to Denver for Jokic, Michael Porter and Stan Kroenke.

Denver would be Foolish to not do this deal and should throw in two first round picks just to make it fair!

Cavs have a good thing going, and Garland and Mobley are a big part of it. Terrible trade for the Cavs.

Breaking up a team that has won 15 of its last 16 games isn't just stupid, it's borderline criminal.

If you think Cade stinks sounds like personal bias. Cade has only really played 2 seasons, so trying to frame it as 3 from a development stance is disingenuous. For essentially a 2nd year 22 yr old to be producing like he is is a solid foundation worth gambling where he'll be in 2 more seasons of developing.

It’s not bias it’s just facts. He’s horribly inefficient and his advanced stats are godawful. The Pistons have been better without him. He may be a valuable player in a different role but in the role he’s been asked to play he is quite bad.

There's only 1 player on the Pistons with a positive BPM which is Jalen Duren at a measly 0.2. NONE of their players have a positive net rating. They are a terrible team and everyone looks like they make the team worse when they're on the floor.

Too much scrutiny for essentially a 2nd year player.
