"Quit whining about LeBron," Bird said. "Enjoy him while he's here. He's unbelievable. He's one of the greatest, if not the greatest ever.”

‘One of the greatest if not the greatest’ is a conditional and politically correct statement. Bird called Jordan God for Christ’s sake.

Then just think how great he was after he three-peated. TWICE.

Damn, just based on one game? Meanwhile some have to stay overtime to break all records just to even be mentioned in the discussion?

He flatly said he was as good as anyone who ever played early in the 11-12 season in a sit down interview. And that was before he won.

LeBron absolutely has the potential to have a chance to be in the running to be among the greatest players of his era.

Then Bird watched LeBron's career and now knows who the new GOAT is.

One 3peat, quits to rest, loses in the 2nd round and then a *3peat.
4 without resting >>>>> 3 without resting.

Wasn't the same player after his so-called rest so it didn't do him any favors. Never losing as the favorite > losing multiple times as the favorite

He was still in his prime

MJ lost as the favorite in '95
Eastern Conference Semifinals: -185 (Magic +165)
The Jordan rumors were circling for months. In a modern market, I feel like there's an ESPN Woj report on how he might consider a return "eventually" and every talk show is devoting an hour to it.
The fact that he came back and they were still favored vs. the Magic is a big indicator of how quickly the market moved once the playoffs began. Imagine holding a Magic series ticket. You won the last bet against Jordan in a playoff series.
Of note, in Game 6, the Bulls led 102-94 with under 3:30 to play. The Magic outscored them 14-0 the rest of the way to eliminate them in six… in Chicago.

But not in 96... technically his 10th year in the league and still considered his prime. Just like many other 10yr players, past or present

Larry is clearly just biter over all those playoff games and series sweeps Jordan had over him.

It won't be a "debate" after LBJ retires, which will be sooner rather than later, especially since his kid looks like he won't amount to jack shit in the NBA. The NBA and their media cohorts will quickly look for the new "GOAT".

It's very tough to figure out how to judge modern day players versus 1980s players
