They swept Larry Bird’s Celtics in the 1983 semis, and 2 years later beat a rookie Jordan Bulls in the first round of the playoffs. They lost to eventual nba champion super teams 1983 Sixers and Larry’s Birds Celtics in the conference finals. If they play in the 1990’s or 2000’s they would have been nba champion. Marques Johnson and Sidney Moncrief were a solid duo. The 1983 Bucks were the only team to win a game against the legendary 1983 Sixers team which had nba mvp julius erving and 3x nba mvp moses malone..

Sweeping the Celtics must be coach Don Nelson’s greatest accomplishment

Bird shot terribly that series. The Celtic’s closest game was the one Bird actually missed.

Combo of Bird being sick and them hating the coach. Mchale actually said his free agency status would be determined by if he came back. They were talking shit about him mid series.

Wasn't 1983 the year they went on a huge winning streak late in the regular season? Bird was injured, the streak started, then Bird returned and came off the bench for like the rest of the season. Those '80s teams sure were deep with talent.

84 - 50 wins (Lost E Finals to Celtics 1-4)
85 - 59 wins (Swept by Celtics E Semis)
86 - 57 wins (Beat Sixers E Semis 4-3, Swept by Celtics E Finals)
87 - 50 wins (Beat Sixers 3-2 E first round, Lost to Celtics Semis 3-4)

Great thread:applause:

I have always heard the Bucks had a very talented team in the 80s, but I thought they were just a fun team to watch without being that much of a threat. A little bit like the Phoenix Suns of the 2000s.

I think that may have been the previous year. Robert Parish ended up top 3 or 4 in mvp voting I think.

They where the equivalent of the 96 Sonics. The best team to not win a finals in that era. The only difference was that the Bucks did not make it to the finals. That team would have battled the 90's Bulls aswell for a title.

No, the Sonics were pretenders the majority of the Kemp/Payton years.
Bucks never lost a series the were supposed to win. They actually beat teams they weren't supposed to beat.
From 81-87, they only lost to the Celtics or Sixers in the playoffs usually beating one or the other in some of those series.
