View Full Version : LeBron costs the Lakers top 8
Sits out a must win game cuz he feels “sick”. Then AD gets hurt. Lakers still competing but obviously not gonna win being so overmatched. Wow. I’d be furious if I was a Lakers fan ngl this game could have been the difference between being the 6 seed and the 9th seed.

I think LeBron still offers on court value, especially as a “player coach” with defensive COMMUNICATION, rebounding & passing. Still a good transition player.

6 looks out of reach now unless if Suns have a massive collapse. Unlikely because they play Clippers twice, who are stuck in 4th spot. Meaningless games for Clippers. Kings will play hard for 7th/8th seed. Twolves may or may not go all out depending on what happens with Denver.
#7 is still possible if we win out remaining 3 games. No excuses for not getting 7th seed or 8th at the very least.

Tonight was a game you had to at least try if the team was serious about winning. LeBron hasn’t cared about winning in years I’m convinced.

No LeBron, no problem.
Lakers were very competitive to start the game and had the lead and momentum into the second quarter.
But then…no AD, HUGE problem.
Lakers have no answer to gobert and Reid and get punished for it. Lebron is optional. But we NEED AD

Doesn't really matter, Lakers are making the playoffs regardless and will have to beat the top teams to win

If James and Davis play they should get that 8th spot in the play-in but they're one hot shooting night from Curry away from not making the playoffs. And Denver should beat them in 4 or 5.

When's the last time they beat Denver? I actually want them to upset the Nuggets but it's not going to happen. They need to avoid that match up.

He's 39 years old and you're blaming him for not playing in some games? What he's doing at this age is already ridiculous, I don't understand how a Bron fan of all people can blame him for this.

OP's position requires the unsafe assumption that James could have played with his flu. In reality there are levels to flu symptoms and sometimes a guy can play with it, sometimes he can't. A certain other historically great ballplayer had one of the great performances of his career playing with the flu so some people will assume everyone can play with it based on that, even though the player himself would tell you that he possibly shouldn't have played.
It can be hard in general to accept the fact that we really don't know something, especially when we are talking about someone else's ability to play with an ailment.

Ĥe does always seem to sit against the good teams.
Tomorrow's game vs Golden State will be huge. Basically a playoff game.

A flu in April? For someone as healthy and strong as Lebron? I'm not buying it.

Yea though this has seemingly been the case for much of the last 6 seasons. Plus, a lot of other 39 year old greats in history have been consistent with their games played. Kareem, Malone, MJ, Stockton, Dirk, etc come to mind.

The flu is a seasonal infection that usually occurs from April to September. Flu seasons vary in severity and duration from year to year. Whatever they learned they didn't bother to teach.

Warriors are stuck in 10. If lakers are 8 then they wouldn't face warriors in play-in.
I don't see kings staying ahead of the lakers. They have been ass lately and have a rough schedule.

Definitely could change but Lakers right now are 9th with their two best players not guaranteed to play in every remaining game. Kings have some tough games remaining but the lakers have about as tough with the kings having the small lead.

The Warriors are only 1.5 games back and play the Lakers tomorrow. That game will also decide the tie breaker between them. If the warriors win they have a great shot at the 9 seed and it would be totally in their hands.

How many 38, 39 year olds have been averaging 24-25PPG? Lebron is already top 1-3 in minutes played.

I think the Warriors don't care about the 9 seed judging by them resting Curry and Wiggins yesterday.
The Kings have one fewer loss than the Lakers and a tiebreaker so if Kings go say 2-2, LA must go 3-0 to pass them which is very possible but then again LA could go 2-1 or Kings could go 3-1. I think LA can more likely pass the Pels especially since they play them in the last game and if they win that, Lakers have the tiebreaker over them too. However losing the Wolves game means Lakers don't control their own destiny. They need help from other teams, namely Sac and NO losing other games.
In the big scheme of things, not sure how much it matters. It's riskier being 9th or 10th because you have to play two play-in games and anything can happen in a single game but it's not the end of the world. I don't think the Lakers' title odds are much higher at #8 than #9 but that's just me. It makes a little bit of a difference if anything. As Lebron said, I think he's more concerned with being rested and as close to 100% physically as possible than which seed they end up as.

The warriors only rested them because they were playing the Jazz and the game tomorrow against the Lakers is for homecourt in the play in.

I think era matters in that regard. If LeBron is playing in previous eras, he probably doesn't shoot as many 3s, so the PPG probably drops a bit. Otherwise, Malone, MJ, and Kareem all averaged 22-23 PPG at 38.
But that's not my main point. The point is that this has been ongoing for a while. LeBron doesn't usually have a full season anymore.

I have no doubt they will both play the last 3 games. They have been killing it the last 15 games. They have gsw, Memphis, and Pelicans. Winning all 3 puts us in 7, but Kings could be trouble. Winning 2 will give us 50/50 chance between 8 and 9, which is where Kings enter the picture and Warriors leave the picture. Winning 1 pretty much puts us in 9 with a very small unlikely chance at 8. If Lakers lose out, they drop to 10.
As a betting man, Lakers will win 2 or 3, especially considering how they have been playing lately. That means we must look at the Kings.
Kings have Thunder, Pelicans, and Suns without their 3rd option in Monk and struggling lately. All 3 teams are fighting to hold their seeds so they will be gunning. They have Blazers last, which they will win easy.
The Warriors are only 1.5 games back and play the Lakers tomorrow. That game will also decide the tie breaker between them. If the warriors win they have a great shot at the 9 seed and it would be totally in their hands.
It's a LA game. AD/LeBron will play. And they are hungry, rest of the team is clicking lately. We also usually play good vs Warriors. Kings are the bigger threats for 8, Pelicans for 7.
