View Full Version : What if teams designate 1 player per game for an extra foul allowed?

I know it sounds a lil contrived but this would be a perfect way to add a bit of balance back toward defense without decreasing the action.

Too many times we hype up a match between Lebron and Kawhi, or Giannis and Embiid, and they dont even guard each other bc it could lead to foul trouble. It’s practically neutered the value of being a good two way player.

Nobody wants to see defenders playing soft to avoid foul trouble. I wanna see Zion and Durant battling head to head. I wanna see Bam and Porzingis keep going for swats even if theyve picked up a couple fouls. I wanna see two way players play two ways. Let em play, refs!

Before each game teams designate one guy to be permitted 6 fouls. Youd get so much more bang for your buck out of top players/defenders. And it would be an exciting way of doing it, more contesting at the rim, more marquee guys going at each other. Rather than some other option thats gonna slow the pace.

It’s a great idea, and I wont hear otherwise. Get it DONE, Adam Silver!

pardon my Chinese, but that'd be like saying the combo deal of the meal provides more nutrition than the entree itself. isn't that just canniablism?

I'd just opt for team fouls instead. For example, once a team has reached 25 fouls, the opponent can choose a player from the team to foul out. And every 5 fouls afterwards.

This way, no one has to worry about personal fouls.
