there's no evidence of tough, physical play in today's game but obviously a lot of evidence in previous eras as shown in the OP.

today's rule book states that perimeter defenders cannot "impede", which means that penetration defense is effectively banned - penetration is automatic in today's game.

Today's kids grow up in the participation trophy mindset and "decision" mindset to collude and team-up with rivals instead of competing with rivals - it's really bad... fortunately, basketball wins out where the best brand of ball usually wins, such as the celtics this year or jokic last year or curry the year prior.
