I wonder how many times a player decided against taking a shot against Zubac as opposed to Wemby.

The slightly misleading part of this is that some guys (like Gobert) have a reputation that makes players think twice about challenging them. So even though one center is a few percentage points better the guy that scares off potential lay-ups is still the better rim protector. Statistics are never going to completely get rid of the need for video analysis.

The eye test tells me Lebron was the best at it, so Im not sure what to make of this.

Unlike some drop bigs playing limited minutes like kessler gobert is guarding all over the floor

Rudy Gobert: “I’m in a stage of my career when I’m comfortable guarding any situation and guarding anyone, and I’m also in a place when I think it’s good for our team when I get switched on anyone and he tries to attack me one-on-one. I think the numbers show it this year, I think, uh, they were telling me that I was, I think, one of the best ISO defenders this year.” – via YouTube

Good list, but I wouldn't put Gobert ahead of Jarrett Allen. Otherwise no problems

Rudy Gobert saying he's the best ISO defender in the League is pure gold. where was his defense was when Draymond locked his head up.

For the advanced stat nerds, is there a cumulative/balanced-equation type stat which balances blocks that stay in bounds and change possession (operates as both a block and a steal, but not quite worth 2 statistical categories fully), blocks out of bounds (worth slightly less), and blocks that result in an immediate put back (slightly less still), coupled with this FG% at the rim stat, as well as FG% against each player’s contest from anywhere on court ?

I think that might be a truly comprehensive rim protection / paint defense stat.

Rudy not even top 10 and the one thing he's supposed to be good at:roll:

Not quite something like that but here are block/recovery stats if you feel like wading through them https://www.pbpstats.com/totals/nba/player?Season=2023-24&SeasonType=Regular%2BSeason
