View Full Version : The decision to stop calling fouls on marginal contact has been a HUGE improvement

Id been saying this for years, and it’s not even cuz of the flopping and foul baiting, but just the constant stops in play to watch guys shoot free throws was unbearable. And most of the time there wasnt even a foul or it was completely negligible.

I honedtly thought the NBA was instructing them to call a million fouls a game to give players extra rest during the action, because I really didnt have any other explanation for it. It was just terrible viewing.

Letting them actually play a bit while still calling the obvious fouls has made the game wayyy much more watchable.

Kudos to the NBA for gettin this one right.

I’m all for doing it how they’re doing it during loose balls, rebounding, and during undisturbed/unaffected dribble drives.

I do think they still need to be slightly tighter during midrange and 3pt shots.
But def no sweep thru bullsh!t, and I love calling offensive fouls for unnatural leg movements to draw contact. Fk those liars.

But def appreciate them letting players get physical for loose balls, and allowing REAL hand checking again. Small guards not liking it as much. Fk em.

What's funny is he got his foot stepped on by West and that Chandler screen was a moving, hard cheap screen that did give him a little whiplash. He just sold it.

It's stupid because there's no clear definition and they can implement it or take it away at their own discretion. Gives the league and refs a lot of power over the game. Some things will always be subjective but there's a lot of things that could be objectified and put in writing so everyone can get on the same page in terms of what's a foul and what isn't.

I feel most of us grumpy old timers have been vindicated.

We all said, just bring back hand checking, penalize moving screens, stop calling contact a foul etc.

And look, the game hasn't been this good for 10+ years. I'm watching a ton of games, where as I could hardly be bothered to watch a single game these last 5 years.

I'd like to see the do away with the defensive 3 seconds too.
