I think this is actually a major screwjob by the Lakers.

A conference finals, an IST chip, a playoff spot in the bloodbath West and elimination only to the BITW Nuggets each year? With this roster?

You could do a lot worse in two years than that.

Obviously they didnt win a chip and Lebron’s coaches and teammates deserve a lot of blame for that. I dont dispute that.

But this still feels way premature. Guy did not get a fair shake.

There are a ton of posts where you claim that the Lakers did win a chip, whether it was the IST or, more recently, game four against Denver. It's remarkable how different you sound when you decide to be reasonable.

It's a league where the players, the front office, and the fans always know better. For the most part, the players are uncoachable, and the more talented the player, the more uncoachable they become. Does anyone actually think that coaches haven't tried to get Lillard (or any of 100 other guys) to play defense. Moreover, when the issue becomes whether to make the star player happy or make the coach happy, guess who loses.

Like lots of other things, this only seems to get worse. Adrian Griffin gets hired largely because Giannis wants him. The team goes 30-13 in his rookie coaching season, but Giannis no longer likes him, so he's fired in favor of Rivers, and the season proceeds to fall apart. Who will get the blame for things falling apart? Probably Rivers. But the point is that no-one can coach that team.

With LA, it's a combo of the front office, LeBron and the fans. They won a championship with Frank Vogel. LeBron gets basically all the credit. Then, after a down year, LeBron pushes for them to break up the team to get Westbrook. It's a disaster, so VOGEL must go. They bring in Ham, who takes them to the WCF, where they lose to the best team in the league. They do basically nothing to address their problems dealing with that team, and lose to them again. So Ham must go. Not the front office. Not the players who were making it clear that they wouldn't listen to Ham. And the fans are absolutely clear in their expectations: the Lakers must win a championship every year (the lesson of Vogel). But it was all Ham's fault.

It's a good thing the job pays well, because otherwise it sucks.

I mean to be fair Game 4 of LAL-DEN was the real chip this year if you think about it logically. And Lebron took home the W. So I count that as a ring for Lebron.

Half of the team has made remarks about the coaching yet let's pretend Ham is a saint and victim here. DLo in particular has had big issues with him all season.

Not trying to say he’s either a saint or a victim. Rather, that it’s an impossible job since the standard is that you must win a championship at least every other year. Anything else is a failure. And you are dealing with players who are basically uncoachable, and who wield more power than the coach. And on top of that, you work for a front office that will fire the coach before accepting any blame themselves. And it’s not just Ham; it’s basically the whole league, with a few notable exceptions.

Ham may have no talent as a coach, but it’s almost certainly too early to tell. At the same point in their careers, Pop and Malone should have been fired for worse results (and Malone was fired by the Kings).

Ham was only the 9th - 3 with Cavs, 1 with Miami, 2 with Cavs, 3 with Lakers. Of course, they were all terrible coaches.

DLo in particular has had big issues with him all season.I didn't like the way Ham blamed players on his way out the door and I'm not saying Ham is a good coach but I bet that any good coach would have issues with Russell, especially if that coach was demanding defense. The team was in a huddle during a playoff game and he was on his cell phone. That's a special kind of disrespect and a true lack of professionalism. You think your coach is an idiot, complain to team management behind the scenes, say something in press conference or interview if you must. But doing that during the game? If he was a Celtic I would want Russell gone badly.

LOL, that guy's been riding LeBrons nuts hard. His podcast with him LeBron was just his public interview.

Doesn't matter, he'll get fired within 2 seasons anyway.
