Mitchell has the 3rd most 50 point playoff games of all time with 3 - tied with Iverson. Only Wilt and MJ have more :lol
He's a bit of a chucker, but he averages over 27ppg on a 50-game same size in the playoffs.
Honestly this is really an "era" thing. In fact, only a couple of players even have TWO 50-point playoff games - Tatum, Jamal Murray, Damian Lilliard, Jerry West.
Even legends like Lebron, Kobe, KD, Dirk, only have ONE 50 point playoff game. Nobody thinks Donavan Mitchell, Jamal Murray, and Tatum are the level of scorers as those guys...

I just can't believe him, Tatum, Jamal Murray, and Damian Lilliard have so many...It's historically an incredibly rare event to score 50 points in the playoffs, yet these guys have multiple?

Before even seeing this stat I was thinking tonight of how reminiscent he is of Iverson.
And thats not entirely a good thing. Mitchell gets his points thru serious tunnel vision. I think of any star player/scorer today hes probably the least intuitive as a playmaker. Once he gets the ball he’s not really seeing the whole floor he’s almost always immediately committed to taking some kind of shot.
I dunno. Ive been sayin this for a while, since before he went to Cleveland, and it still looks pretty true. Hes not really a championship first option. Im not sure what exactly the plan is when you build around him.

You've literally listed off all guys who are probably top 20 all time 3 point shooters.
You know - the shot that gives you propensity to score more per shot.

There are maybe 8 of those guys in the NBA right now. What do the other 22 teams do?

I see Mitchell more as Jerry Stackhouse than Iverson though.
Shai is Iverson, not Mitchell.

I dunno.
Im not saying dont play him.
Im just saying if you try to build around him it’s gonna be hard to win a championship.
I dont know what the alternatives are but I just know thats a fact.

Dude was the only one hitting shit dsmn near the whole second half tonight..most of them weren't even forced or bad shots. He was just getting to his spots

Yeah, altho it seemed like the Magic game plan was to let him do his thing anyway and not let anyone heat up from 3.
I agree Mitchell wasnt taking bad shots necessarily, he was getting to the rim and converting. But somehow it just wasnt enough to keep up.

Donavan Mitchell, Tatum, and Jamal Murray are top 20 3-point shooters of all time??? Can you provide some evidence because that doesn't sound right.
Lilliard is definitely up there though.

If you exclude Tatum's rookie season he is averaging 3 made 3 pointers a game at 38%...
Last 4 years Donovan is putting in 4 a game at 37%.
Jamal Murray is even better efficiency wise while making slightly less.
Mitchell and Tatum are both 27 or younger and already in the top 70 for 3s made all time...
Regardless of if they are exactly top 20, they are the mixture of volume scorer with all time great 3 point efficiency.

how dare you! It is an entirely good thing to be placed in the same breath as the ultimate juggernaut iverson. Though he is only 20% of the player he is.

Without looking, I'm sure they've all happened in the past 4 yeara.

100%, it's truly an era thing. It's well documented that the 3 point shot has broken the NBA because there is simply too much value in it compared to the difficulty of shooting it.
Ideally the 3 point shot would really be worth 2.5 points. That alone would completely eliminate the bonkers math behind that shot and turn the NBA back in time at least 15 years.

Cavs made a horrible trade back in '22. Killed their chemistry. They were much better off with Markkanen and their draft picks.

Cavs are one of the final 8 teams. I don't think they regret that trade yet. They're relevant, which is something they were not years before or after LeBron.

Anything Tatum has done or is close to doing must not be a big deal.

If it was a horrible trade, then they immediately would have gotten worse somehow. The best they could do was win 45 games and then lose in the play-ins before it happened.
