Because Gobert helps off of AG. Frenchie just camping his ass under the basket limits a lot of options for Jokic, and you live with AG taking j’s, which he shot out of his mind in game 5, I think he was like 9/10 from 3 and midrange and had 2 dunks for a total of 11/12 shooting. When Gobert guards Jokic, Jokic doesn’t gaf about KAT or Reid meeting him at the basket. Simple but effective scheme, and the whole ‘Jokic destroys dpoy but not KAT’ is a fun narrative for the media to play with.

That’s why Denver has to attack all weak side close outs when 4-on-3 on the weak side. Unless it’s Murray or Caldwell Pope or Porter. Everyone else has to attack the gaps, hard, to punish Minnesnowta for their hard doubles on Jokic.

Jokic also must cut hard immediately after releasing the pass, and physically occupy each defender doubling him as much as possible. Like extend each arm on the initial step of the cut, so each of the two defenders FEELS your presence, and feels obligated to stay with you, for at least one step. Same concept as a nose tackle occupying two. Or a stud receiver forcing a safety to lean their way.
