Basketball can be played in different ways. Some people prefer watching physical dominance LeBron or Giannis style. Others want to see all-around skills or great shooting touch. Warrior mentality or finesse. Etc. And we see the players' different shortcomings being tolerable or fatal.

Who are some players you happen or happened to like in spite of their faults? Players you "shouldn't like", but you do. You end up liking them despite not preferring the style they represent.

I for one despise ballhogs. I grew up on Magic and Bird and really hated Jordan. End no, I didn't hate him because he was beating the Lakers and became the global icon. I hated him long before that. Saw him as selfish, taking too many shots. Too much individual play, not enough team. (No, I didn't end up as an MJ fan. I ended up respecting him but my dislike remained.) To this day, I prefer team first players and I don't really like iso basketball. I don't like watching Luka or Harden dribbling for 20 seconds. Or Durant isoing and nothing else. Another thing I don't like watching is physical dominance and very little skill involved. So Giannis is a pain for me to watch.

Here are some things I dislike:

- selfishness on the court
- iso basketball
- relying on physical dominance too much

And here are some players I like/liked regardless:

- Kobe (ballhog)
- Kyrie (iso)
- Shaq (physical dominance)

I also shouldn't like Jokic. Looks clumsy and uncoordinated. Players like him I usually find very hard to watch. But he won me over.

Who are some players you like and you shouldn't?

i don't think there is anyone

i've always acknowledged greatness comes in different forms whether or not i consider myself a fan of someone

i never was a jordan fan but that doesn't mean i disliked him

jokic kind of reminds me of duncan and stockton who i've said before i had jerseys of growing up

that combined with some of the numbers and quotes i've seen saying he's goat level probably makes my interest in him kind of inevitable

Tastes are quite similar. I was ten when the Knicks won in 70, and they have always been the model for me of a great team - utter unselfishness on offense and great team defense. Since then, the teams I’ve liked the most are Bird’s Celtics, Duncan’s Spurs, especially the incarnation with Kahwi, and now Jokic’s Nuggets.

So like you, I disliked, but grew to admire MJ and Kobe.

The other type of player I tend to gravitate towards are the workhorse/enforcer types - Maurice Lucas, Rambis, Unseld, Rodman (DeBusschere on my Knicks). The opposite of these would be the weak D scorers. I’m trying to come up with one who won me over, but it’s not as easy, maybe Reggie Miller, who I always liked sort of, despite him going a bit against either of my types.

My favorite player is westbrook even though I go on and on about high IQ guys. He may have looked like having OK IQ at 1 point in the past (not by his haters ever), but all that is out the window. I look forward to his retirement, I cannot watch him on a team like the clippers or lakers any more because it is a hazard to my health. Just pretend the quangdong national anthem is playing in the background as I type all this.

Even though every sixer fan hates Tobias Harris. I’ve never had a problem with em. He does what he should do. Get the **** out of the way and give all of your touches to the better players. If he was like a Ingram who doesn’t realize he is sinking the team and kept being aggressive. I probably would hate em. Tobias a solid player. Just stop having such high expectations of him. Just be happy with 10-14 ppg he is gonna get you in the playoffs.

That’s my type of 4th option role player. You get your sorry ass out the way and go stand in the corner or dunker spot and let maxey, embiid, harden, butler, ect cook.

Derrick white is the perfect role player. In spite of being a Celtic, I love his game bro. Wish he was on our team

Edit man o man i hope we do not end up with Ingram….random thought

I like Bran despite all his flopping, choking, his fake media personality, roids, colluding etc.
