I think no Porzingis, at least to start the series, is more daunting against the Pacers than it was against the Cavs. You need that scoring and defensive mobility.
The Celtics still have enough on paper to best the Pacers, but some of the Celtics dont always play up to the level their status “on paper” suggests they should.
I could see this going at least six. Hard to picture the Celtics not winning the series but Ill be very surprised if they cruise.

Pacers have two games to start, without any type of Porzingis at all. He will come back in game 3 or 4, but at what capacity ?
These pacers team feel like the 2021 hawks bt. Barely had any playoff experience whatsoever and overlooked due to other prominent, relevant teams but still ended up making the ecf. Only major difference i see is that the pacers faced hampered teams twice in a row otw here.

Pacers hopefully in 7.
A young inexperienced team that is constantly improving every round and finally finding their rhythm/identity.
They were down 2-0 against the Knicks while trailing by nine points in the 4th quarter of game 3 but somehow managed to win that game and eventually the series which is a pretty impressive comeback regardless of the injuries.
I'd love for the Pacers to win but I don't see how they can.

NY being banged up helped improve their chances while their guys are able to recover better since they're obviously young. Tho speaking of injuries, they also didn't have math around but his absence/sidelining isn't as significant as some of the key starters from the opposing team earlier.

One of the things opposing fans casually disregard is that Indiana actually won the season series against the Bucks and Knicks so it would have been competitive even without the injuries.
Yeah, forgot about that. That could be fair i guess. Regardless, hali must be having the last laugh now over his former peers back in sac now that he's in the middle of a deep playoff run.

Obviously the Pacers have been the most healthy compared to their opponents but Mathurin is a huge out for them.
He is by far their best wing defender and they were lucky Giannis was out because he has always been affective guarding him.
While it hasn't mattered too much up untill now, they will really miss him this series going up against Brown and Tatum.

One of the things opposing fans casually disregard is that Indiana actually won the season series against the Bucks and Knicks so it would have been competitive even without the injuries. Milwaukee has some undiagnosed issue. Regular season was a massive underachievement. Pulled the biggest trade of the offseason and only got worse. I agree that the Pacers give them a hard time regardless.
The Knicks... I'm not sure. The timing of the Julius Randle injury made it so that we didn't get to see the Knicks at full strength at any point. Randle is a legit scorer and the Knicks didn't have a second one in that series. I'm not sure because again, we didn't get to see this team full strength but given how hard they fought when at a severe talent disadvantage what happens when the footing is close to equal?
We just don't know.
Healthy Knicks vs healthy Celtics would have been a killer ECF but I'm hoping the Pacers can surprise us. If Haliburton's hamstring is truly ok now I think they can win 2 games.

True but it's not just that. Having one of the worse coaches amongst the playoff teams in doc rivers doesn't help. Getting rid of griffin mid-season is bad but doing the same for holiday last summer must've sucked for them a lot too.

There were too many circumstances in this run. But yeah, at full force the knicks would have likely prevailed. They have postseason experience in them and brunson has played in the cf before. The only thing that indy has rn is that ist run from last year but i'm not sure if it means anything here. Still, they're obviously a better team now than they were the previous season.

Yeah Reese was gettin a lil greedy towards the end of the game. Lil too much glory hunting. He got lucky White fouled him on that three, it was a terrible shot. Mazzulla needs to address the defense. Didn't sic Brown on Siakam until literal the last minute and need a better way to deal with Turner. Hopefully Tillman situation is resolved positively and then maybe give him some of those reserve minutes on Turner. Tatum and whoever else also needs to deal with Toppin. Brown is Siakam kryptonite so no need to put Tatum on him, have Brown guard him and Tatum silence Toppin.
The Mental:
Nerve-wracking as it was this was a great experience for the Cs because it gave them some confidence in themselves and each other in the clutch. The only real problem with the regular season the Celtics had is that they had so few tough clutch games that the few times they need to step up they were in shock and even when they lost they had such a great record it didn't matter. Today facing by far the most pressure they have all season their stars came through after a fourth quarter where they were mostly bad with Brown missing shots and Tatum not even getting the ball. Brown hot the biggest shot he's ever hit and then tatum showed superstar form in overtime.

If you still don't think Jaylen Brown is one of the great players in this league, and one of the best 2 way players in the game, you're not paying attention. His game just keeps improving.
Horford was a liability. Indiana is a young, fast team; they switch players onto Horford and exploit his slowness. On the offensive end, they left Horford alone and played 5-on-4, letting Horford shoot and miss (3-12 from the 3 pt line, often wide open).
Jrue Holiday was also solid; efficient 10-16 and his usual smothering defense.
The Pacers at first were falling apart in the face of the Celtics defense, but began to break the defense down through ball movement and being more careful with the ball. This series is going to be more competitive than some might have thought. The Pacers relentless offense against a well balanced Celtics team that plays great D.

If you are an NBA player the head coach is your boss. The player can disregard instructions in the moment but it absolutely is not fair to expect them to do that when they've been trained to follow the coaching from the age of 5. A player could be making the correct decision in that moment but a team can't have a bunch of guys that from moment to moment may decide they disagree with the plan and do their own thing out of sync with the rest of the team and contrary to what the coach wants done. If your players should second guess your coach like that you should probably get a new coach.

Didn't you say Miami would beat them even without Jimmy Butler? You Celtic haters can't stop melting down. It's unfortunate and unfair that opposing teams lost stars but that's part of the game and I don't recall the Celtics being cut any slack when they lost Hayward and Irving. Did anyone have sympathy the season jayson tatum had to take on KD and Irving without Jaylen Brown? Or last year they had to deal with injuries to Robert Williams and Malcolm Brogdon. Even this year they just won the East without their 20 ppg starting center. No one gives them a pass for any of that. Fact of the matter is that if everyone is healthy the 64 win team is still going to win the East.
