Yea he took away a good number of shots inside in the first half. He got benched more for offense. Didnt get drug into too many bad situations defensively.

He led his team to the #2, #2, #4, & #1 defense the years he won DPOY. He can't guard the perimeter, this is nothing new, he plays in an era where guards exploit big men, other past great defensive big men never really had to deal with that on a consistent basis. Imagine the hate someone like Mark Eaton would get if he played in this era, he would get cooked worse than Gobert and he has 2 DPOY awards. I'm sure Shaq would be roasted as well even though he wasn't primarily known for his defense.

I don't care about awards like some of ISH does. Those are all fine for regular season success. It's proven it doesn't translate in the playoffs with Gobert. It's clear to see the Wolves played their best basketball tonight when Rudy was on the bench. Is that all directly Gobert's fault? I've been told Gobert is their best player and I think that's why there seems to be some confusion here. I've also been told he's the rightful DPOY. Nobody is mistaking softcock KAT for anything other than what he is and many threads have already been made about Edwards.

People talk about the step back buzzer beater all day long , but to me, it’s the pre-lob read and timing that is the most insanely efficient, disrespectfully abusive execution on Rudy:

Once Rudy shifts his weight into his front foot, to commit even one shoe towards Luka’s scoring threat, Luka throws the lob. Luka feels, reads, and processes paint defense even better than he reads perimeter defense. His processing happens at his own speed, and his actions take advantage of defenders weaknesses in tight windows that faster players wouldn’t even be able to see and act upon.

Luka against a slim light defender in the PNR…. Once he gets him on his hip … Luka creates paint 3-on-2’s and paint 2-on-1’s and keeps that lightweight on his back, with hesi’s that act like “posting up in reverse”, intermittently while going downhill slowly.

Most don’t know exactly what he is doing, and why it’s so fkn impossible to stop scoring and passing wise. But those of us who understand it, it’s something to watch.

Maybe, but this is always much easier to say in hindsight. ItÂ’s fair to suggest adjustments that might have worked, but theres no guarantee they would have. And if the team is playing competitive the entire game right til the end in all three games, itÂ’s a big gamble for a coach to just change up the strategy on the fly. Theres no guarantee an adjustment doesnt make things worse. We can sit here and say it sounds logical but Minnesota has been leading more of this series than theyve been trailing. To adjust away from that is a risk thats easy for us to make from the comfort of an armchair. But it’s hard to blame a coach whose team has either been winning or well within striking distance for most of a series. Theyre just getting burned at the end by two guys nobody can stop.

Naturally when you lose people look for something different that could have or should have been done. And sometimes there is. But IMO the biggest factor right now in this series is something there is no adjustment for, which is two guys playing out of their minds in fourth quarters. Theres nothing more you can do within the rules than what Minnesota has tried, it’s just good offense beating good defense.
