And he's only 25. Must be the best start for a non all time great franchise player?

For example, even an ATG like Hakeem made only 1 conference finals and 1 finals in his first 7 years.

All the greats didn't win until they were about 27. Tatum is far ahead of the curve.

Be All-time great start makes it tricky. Theres been a lot of better starts, but if we’re only talking about players who aren’t all-time great….

Dennis Johnson and his first seven years made at least three conference finals two finals won a ring and was finals MVP and was probably 4 or 5 times all D first team and made at least one all NBA first team. He might have a second ring on the Celtics in that seven years, but maybe not. I’m just going off the top of my head.

Tatum isnt a great.

Celtic fans really have no reason to take that personally. It's the Boston Celtics, not the Boston Tatums.

And JT honestly seems like a chill dude. I dont have any agenda against him. If ever becomes a legitimately dominant player I'll be happy to say as much.

Them winning this year, if they do, really doesnt change anything about him. He'd be the de facto lead guy on a team that did it as a team. It'd be a Chauncey Billups ring/FMVP. We already know he's a good player. Being a default award guy on a good all around team doesnt suddenly put him in the discussion for anything elite all time. If you think Tatum is SIGNIFICANTLY better than Chauncey Billups as a guy who impacts winning, just because 'ppg!' you dont know the sport and should just find something else to do (I dont mean you personally just people in general).

But 90% of people are gonna claim exactly that.

So, whatever!

This would be a very unique title if the Celtics win it all. 95% of the time it's a top 3-5 player in the league that leads their team to the title, the other 5% it's a team with no superstar like the '04 Pistons or '14 Spurs. Tatum would legitimately be the first fringe superstar to win a title in the last 30+ years.

I'm not sure DJ qualifies as a franchise player. Maybe for a couple seasons if that? If we're talking non franchise player I'd say another Dennis in Rodman also had a great start. Or Sam Jones.

It’s really weird because people say Boston is stacked yet they have no actual stars. Either way titles are coming

Wes Unseld made a few Finals and a bunch of Conference Finals in his first couple of seasons.
That might be the only case.

In an east that was toggling between unimpressive, injured AF, and outright weak.
And he’s been 26 since the all star break.

Yeah, like he's obviously a great player, but the competition in the EC Playoffs was a joke this year, so much so that his shooting slump did not really cost them any games, when it normally would have vs. good opponents.

Tatum needs 95 points in the Finals to pass Kobe Bryant for most postseason points scored before the age of 27. Just passed Lebron James.

I think we will see a few "Is Tatum the Goat?" posts if they win the title.

Nah but if he wins 3-4 with this core while being an all nba defender and top 3 mvp candidate he certainly will be near top 7 imo

He’s just so boring to watch..

Doesn’t sound like it’s just me either, has anyone seriously even been watching boston these playoffs?

It’s not about hate, it’s just a nothing when it comes to Tatum and Brown:confusedshrug:

The Celtics are probably going to win the title this year because they have the most depth and have the best team in the league but holy hell this guy is overrated offensively. He's also completely full of himself, in an unjustifiable way.

He's a very very good player but he gets overrated af because of his team.

The nonsensical narrative around him is the exact type of reason that players get disproportional hate.
