Not sure what to think of that. I don't feel like he really pushed any boundaries with this. He was canceled back in the 90s for saying "f*g". Maybe he should try to say that again if he wants to make a real splash. Or better yet, the n-word.

I do feel like he has actually aged much better than Dre, 50, Snoop, have. They are all so old.

Canceled so bad that he became the biggest rapper of the early-mid 00's. :oldlol:

Off The Court is an incel nerd but he's right that the extreme left tried to cancel Eminem back then but no one else gave a rat's ass.

Cancel culture has been around a long time, fellas. Not until recently with the younger generation did they have so much influence though. Give you an example to some of you younger folk, they tried canceling Axl Rose in the late 80s after his One In A Million song, go listen to it. Gen X didn't give a shit to what the fakkits were bitching about though :lol

They tried to cancel the whole entire genre of rap back in the day. Lmao.

Ice T, NWA, Tupac, 2 Live Crew, etc etc.

Gen X’s weak asses were panicking off Satanic shit like some bitches too. Just like today everything was the devil to those 80’s kids. lol. They literally believed every stupid rumor or urban legend about metal artists or rappers. Lmao.

As for Eminem. He bit the wicket shit. Esham is the original shock rapper from Detroit who they really cancelled for what he was saying.

Slim Shady is back indeed. Love it.

Before people get upset with him…Slim is literally a comic persona. He’s saying the most awful things he can possibly say from the offendee’s perspective because it’s funny.

Just a joke people. He’s not trying to push boundaries of thought.

Slim Shady has always been Eminem’s way of ripping off and biting the hip hop sub genre Horrorcore.

Eminem is a straight up boring ass back pack rapper. His first album flopped hard because he’s boring as shit. Once he decided to bite Horrorcore and be a shock rapper is when he took off. The problem is he pays no homage to the pioneers.

This is Em proving to the world that he isn't a homophobe after saying "f*g". And the irony is that it worked, the video in the OP is more politically correct than Em's young days. He won't ever say "f*g" again.

It didn't make him less popular, often times being "canceled" makes you more popular. See Andrew Tate or others who's entire claim to fame is being "canceled".

All of them are more politically correct. Snoop is literally making songs for children now. Let's see Snoop and Dre make another "Bitches ain't shit but hoes and tricks" type track.

I mean, really they just grew up and matured, but young them was way more anti-PC. I mean they talked about murdering. This track in the OP is child's play to their old stuff.

For real. All the real hardcore rap acts from Detroit who Eminem stole his style from are the ones who got canceled.

Esham, Natas, Dice, ICP, House of Krazees.

Op do you homework. You barely even know Bay Area rap let alone Detroit wicket shit. Eminem is a fraud.

Fraud isn’t really the right term. Like anyone else he borrowed styles from pioneers.

Em was clearly gifted syllabically and with words in general. He had a different lane and was never shy about it.

HeÂ’s a fraud homie. M&M started out as wanting to be the most technical and pure hip hop / EMO back pack rapper of all time. He never wanted to lower himself to gimmicks or shock value. Actually go listen to his early shit. Understand how he initially responded to early local Detroit pioneers like Kid Rock, Esham, and ICP. He hated them for doing gimmicks. HeÂ’s the same age as those dudes. That got him no where.

He then saw the flourishing underground seen of ultra hardcore rappers like Necro, Cage, and RA The Rugged Man. That’s when he decided to flip the script and be a “shock” rapper.

Eminem honestly wanted to be a the technical Atmosphere. An emo rapper talking about his girlfriends and life struggle. But he decided to exploit his Mom, his wife, and his daughter to get famous. So then Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine who already knew about the untapped market of Horrorcore / shock white boy rap decided to exploit EM for money.

I think he wanted to be a wordsmith, which he was. The Infinite raps were nasty but not a radio winner. Going the extra level and realizing that something sells doesn't necessarily make someone a fraud. He was satirical about the Shady persona and frequently undercut his albums with songs that were real so it wasn't just a straight gimmick of an artistic journey.

Yea, Jay Z was famous for borrowing lines from Biggie and other artists at one point.

Kendrick's style seems heavily influenced by Andre 3k (Young Kendrick always bringing up aliens like Andre did) and Eminem.

Wordsmiths are a dime a dozen. Plenty of rappers before Eminem were able to put multi syllable rhymes together. Big Pun and Big L being the epitome of that example. They even rocked horrorcore themes too.

Eminem didn’t get noticed just because he rhymed tight. It was his combination of skill, mixed with shock value, and the fact he was white. Dr Dre / Jimmy Iovine who knew everything about all the hardcore horror theme rappers and all the underground white rappers decided to put all their stock into one and gave you Eminem.

Since then it’s been nothing but complete ignorance from Eminem Stans. They don’t even rock hardcore music. Just like the OP they think Eminem is the only whiteboy rapper who spoke their mind. It’s complete bullshit.

Abra Abra Cadabera.. And just like that and I'm back bruh.. Slim Shady is back my friends. He had the Batman suit, mansion, and the whole 9 yards. Anyone who doesn't rock with it is hating.

He even said F his own kids. Said that the whole world is gay and soft like girl scouts. Called Paul a crossdresser and his own cat a black/chinese, transgender. That's just as hardcore if not more than Without Me or The Real Slim Shady.

And I’d say your example ain’t even the same because yes Metallica were underground metal pioneers. They did put in work and create a genre.

There is no other white rapper with the complete package that Eminem has. Like Em said, "A million fish in the sea but feels so empty without me." "Walk like me, talk like me, act like me, but just not quite me."

There may other white rappers who know how to rhyme well, but they don't have Eminem's voice or his flow. Or an interesting Slim Shady persona that appeals. When Eminem speaks, you listen. No other white rapper has the complete package. Lol, you really think Vanilla Ice has the complete arsenal of Eminem? There are other white rappers out there that may be able to do one thing well. But Eminem did several things and had the appeal. I've seen other white rappers battle, but they don't have the charisma. They don't have the voice or the look. You guys know what I'm talking about.

Eminem really can do it all. Stop hating. He can rap emotional songs like Halie's Song. He can rap fast like in Rap God. But he also has made many funny songs. He created Stan and that word ended up in the dictionary. Eminem can make motivational songs like Lose Yourself. Eminem can make hardcore songs like I Don't Give a F. Heck, he even made Relapse and created a new accent.

On top of that, Eminem was in 8 Mile. Best actor I've ever seen for a rapper. He was completely natural. I just don't understand the hate. Like I said, there may be other rappers out there that know how to rhyme or battle, but they never did it on the big stage like Eminem. No other white rapper ever had the creativity of Eminem. Eminem practically invented bleached, blonde hair and earrings. Before Eminem, I never saw anyone bleach their hair. I remember in 2000, every kid bleached their hair after the MMLP.

Garbage ass example. That was MJ latter years. Past his prime. If you can’t decipher that then I question your intelligence. Slim shady persona is why Eminem is popular amongst the masses. When Eminem was introduced to the world? It was as Slim Shady first. The shock n awe rap, the dissing of pop stars, the MTV jackass like comedy videos . Then he merged Eminem with it. He did this combo for years during his best albums. So the comparison is MJ Wizards is beyond retarded. Also the fun fact that music is subjective so everyone top 10-20 lists will differ based on different criteria down to age. Older people will have more older rappers vs younger. So exactly what was this pointless reply about again? You can either say “my bad you right” or follow up with more stupidity that I’ll gladly smack out the f*cking ball park. You like goofy rap. Nothing I said about Eminem was hateful besides I dislike the Slim Shady persona. Is that persona a “white people” thing? Since you’re the face guy let me know. Remove the nutty persona and Eminem is a really good rapper. Just not in my top 10.

When Eminem was introduced to the world? It was as Slim Shady first.

Haha, I remember when "The Real Slim Shady" went huge. All of a sudden these people would usually be into shitty pop music thought they were cool hip-hop heads overnight. It was depressing. I was into graf, breaking etc and it was like watching a massive culture shift take place. The doors were blown open and anything was acceptable all of a sudden. Hip-hop (music) was for everyone. Anyone could be down (in their own minds). Ask these people who Kool G Rap is and they would look confused. Next thing you know guys like Soulja Boy are dissing the old guys. People that can't rap for shit were welcomed and supported. I grew up and lost interest in seeing these gigantic egos, constant drama etc. I wanted to give this song a chance but turned it off pretty quickly.

The point is you used an example of an extremely out of prime version of eminem to discredit his whole career. Which is the same as somebody using Wizards Jordan to discredit his GOAT case based off what he did in his prime.

I don't know if you rode the short bus to school or not, but it's becoming more and more apparent that may have been the case if you couldn't comprehend such a simple analogy.

Furthermore, listing guys like LL Cool J and Ice Cube as better rappers than eminem? That's a bannable offense.

I think you're conflating rapper and lyricist. Rap as an art isnt just about the technical aspect of rhyming words in complex ways. It's also about style, presentation, innovation.

If someone just enjoys listening to one artist over another, to them that would make their preferred artist the better rapper.

You're entitled to prefer Eminem obviously. But rap isnt a sport with objective winners and losers. There's no scoreboard. It's art. It's subjective. People can prefer for Cool J or Ice Cube for the styles they popularized and influence they had on the genre. Are they better technical linguistic lyricists than Eminem? Probably not. But if they resonate more with how some people enjoy rap, that's not unreasonable.

Everything is an art and technically subjective if were playing that game. In that case I could say Vanilla Ice > Tupac because I liked Vanilla Ices songs more, and related to him more. That would just be a personal opinion though. Factually, Tupac was a way better poet / rapper.

There are some cases where it's objectively close and subjective preference can dictate your decision... in the aforementioned comparison with regards to this thread its not even close.

Revoked? Let’s just address this major error in your meaningless post. The Slim Shady persona is apart of Eminem. It’s not something he created when he started declining. During his “prime” Slim Shady was at the forefront along with his songs of substance displaying his lyricism. The fact you compared the two is moronic and that is being nice. The video in this thread is what Eminem came into the game and did. And did throughout until he took a break from rap. Slim shady character is trash along with his raps. And once again this is subjective. LL Cool J has consistently been relevant and dropped material that matches the times. Whereas some would be outdated given the era he started. Check out his latest song with Rick Ross and Fat Joe. He clearly out raps both on the track produced by Q-Tip. What you probably never heard of the song. Too out of touch on hip hop.

Ice Cube has classic albums. Ice Cube was apart of a legendary west coast rap group. Ice cube has diss records that rank high on the all time list of disses. You don’t prefer Cube or LL? That’s your choice d*ckhead. I’m not a fan of common even tho lyrically he’s elite. His delivery via nasal tone just throws me off and doesn’t resonate with me. It’s as simple as that which can leave a rapper off a list whereas you would rank them highly. As a lyricist? Em is also elite. As a rapper? Slim shady persona is included. You can’t erase him dissing pop groups and females.

Lil Wayne is not a personal favorite rapper of mine. But his impact and influence in hip hop is well documented. The album received 11 Grammy nominations which was the most nominations since Thriller. It's universally considered the best hip hop album of the 21 century and is often debated against Illmatic. This isn't about being a fan boy, it's common knowledge.

You are just out of touch my dude, just how you are with the NBA when you said Brooks was better than Reaves (I wonder why) or how you said Montana was better than Brady. You are racist old head who is stuck in the past who refuses to give the current generation its due.

Kendrick is an unbelievable lyricist and poet. He's a little wierd... with the alien voice stuff but he mixes it up. And is top notch in everything a rapper should be good at ~ flow, word play, complexity of rhyme schemes, etc.

Listening to Ice Cube "Today was a good day, I didnt even have to use my AK!" type shit is so elementary from a technical perspective its wholly embarrassing to even compare his skills to somebody like Kendrick Lamar or Eminem.

It's like Bob Cousy being compared to Steph Curry or George Mikan to Shaq. Everybody understands you old heads hang on to the nostalgia thing but your arguments are just lame and unsubstantiated.

First off Kendrick wouldn't exist without Cube who is a pioneer, but second Cube was west coast gangsta rap and that really isn't about "word play". Snoop, Dre, Pac, Cube, etc didn't ever have complex rhyme schemes but their genre wasn't about that.

East coast was more into that but not all them either. Old Dirty could barely even rhyme, he would just yell shit, but that was his style and what made him who he was. It's not all about being a walking dictionary.

Tupac and Snoop had some real nice rhyme schemes and flow... don't know what you're talking about. Ice Cube was slow, loud and basic in pretty much every song. With the exact same cadence an delivery absolutely no switch up or creativity.

Yes we all understand the oldest rap groups paved the way for the genre. Bob Cousy and George Mikan paved the way for the start of the NBA and basketball. It doesn't mean they're better than guys who took it to a totally higher level. It's quite frankly not even close.

Snoop and Pac were just gangsta, and that genre didn't care about a huge vocabulary or word play. Snoop was talking about "biiiaatch" this and that and Pac was yelled "thug life, feel me!" every other verse. Sure at times they could get a little creative but it wasn't like they were Wu Tang trying to get scientific with it.

Cube is in that same vein. It was about his gangsta tough guy persona, he wasn't trying to be a poet. He wouldn't be Dough Boy if he was always trying to rhyme high vocabulary words, that wouldn't make sense for him.

It's like I change my plans with every grain of sand
That gets caught between my toes of worries and woes
If they would take my hand
Maybe the pains of man
Wouldn't seem like such a bad dream that you can't control
All the thoughts that come
That make you toss your lunch
Every time that you think that you can hold it down
So now I'm off to jump
To bunny hop the bumps
That life sets up to hold my head underground
Cause I move back and forth on a swing set
The scenery stays the same
I ain't learned a thing yet
It comes and goes (and it comes again)
The sun the snow the rain the wind (the wind) and ain't none of it pretend
If I could bend all the barbed wires and bars
I could escape the playpen and make my way toward the stars
Pick up the pieces of broken keepsakes
And sprint across the field until both of my feet ache
I hung from my limbs
Off of the jungle gyms
Until my muscle got sore and my hustle got bored
And when I jumped down to take a look around
The only faces I recognized were the ones I ignored
I took the obstacle course at full speed
Still it's probable that the home team will hold the lead
But if it's possible I request that they let me take a seat
Stop the coach and ask him how I got into the league
It goes six six something miles beneath the surface
Championship
It's the skin verses the shirtless
And I don't know which side I'm supposed to be on
And I can't tell if it's getting closer to dawn
Well excuse me
But I had a rough evening
I was shaken out of my rest when I stopped breathing
Awoken from my sleep awoken from my dreams
Chokin' on my ?
Holdin' on to my screams
And the sea turned blue and the sky turned blue
And when I sing the blues all the lies come true
As we convince each other what's old is now
The books, the rent and the end is overdue
The waiting pool is full of the blood of the unbound souls
Submerge my urges as I plug my nose
And swim laps around the momentary laps of loss
Use a stick to write my name in every line I have to cross
Toss some change into the fountain to make a wish
But most of us are wishing for a little bit of change
Sneak a cigarette break between first and second down
And play match of hind and seek with your heart and your brain
Well olly olly oxen free duck duck gray duck
King of the hill fell off and broke his crown
The neighborhood runt lost his voice from yelling, "Wait up!"

Music, or art in general, is different than athletics. Basketball players paving the way for the game as a whole is cool and all, but it's different because the level of athlete now across the league is far superior.

Taking something that has already been built to a totally higher level in music doesn't mean quite what you think it does. The previous guys built the foundation of the house, newer ones are renovating it to look nicer or more modern. Two totally different disciplines that should be respected separately.

It's not really even time dependant since today's rappers on average suck compared to the 90s / 00s but the NWA era and even before that just were extremely basic. Like it seriously feels like 50s basketball vs 90s or 00s.

Music can be objectively better. If I were to play you a Marvin Gaye album vs Soldier boy or Cardi B or Da Baby or whatever and you came away saying Marvin wasn't better you're opinion on the subject would be totally invalidated and just plain wrong. Objectively.

I tend to somewhat agree. Although Pac is legendary and is probably the most charismatic rapper ever, had the best voice/delivery, & has tons of classics, his word play/lyrical ability is pretty inferior when you compare him to guys like Nas, Biggie, Kendrick & Eminem. But I wouldn't say Pac "was just a gangsta rapper", he has tons of conscience songs (Brenda's gotta Baby. Changes etc.), he was pretty versatile.

I respect this. My problem is peeps like you going at Eminem while not knowing the real avenue to actually attack dude.

Eminem basically ripped off every real underground savage rapper who existed before him. Yeah he’ll give props to the NYC multi syllable rhymers like Kane, G Rap, or whoever but he doesn’t give props to the real hardcore savages that spit wicket politically incorrect rhymes before him.

The OP is literally the gleaming example of the Stan mainstream hijackers acting like real hardcore politically incorrect rap starts with Eminem. And that’s bullshit.

But what do you do to argue against EM’s place? Pull out all the famous pop artist rappers Em could rap circles around.

Favorite rapper is 2Pac or Big L. But I haven't listened to rap super often in like a decade. More of a when I'm in the mood thing now.

Cue you calling me a poser for liking 2Pac cuz he's mainstream

Dude you do not even listen to rap music period. You couldn’t name your favorite rapper if you tried. You don’t even have a real opinion. You’re just here to troll.

And this basically your MO on all topics. The NBA or politics. You’re just a casual who trolls.

Yup.

Now respond with some Zoomer shit like I’m triggered when you’re the one following me in this thread.

Naw I respect that.

Idk why you keep trying to call me out though?

Yeah some of us actually lived amongst the underground rap scenes during the mid to late nineties, and have strong opinions about people like Eminem. Why you have a problem with what I think IDK?

Yes if you come at the discussion with the generic Jay Z, Nas, and LL are better than Em I’m going to start calling you a poser. Sorry.

I'm calling you out for being weird and needlessly combative to posters in this thread, I don't give a shit about Eminem. I just called you out for saying Metallica (before Cliff's death) doesn't get ranked among the GOATs by metalheads which is crazy talk. You may well be right about everything you're saying about Eminem but it's weird you're acting personally offended that other posters enjoy his music. Let people like what they want.

The OP is literally acting like Eminem is some lone activist for free speech. Do you believe that?

There are literally hundreds of people who really got shelved and canceled way before Em or this current “cancel culture” phenomenon, but fools wanna act like Universial Interscope Eminem is some unicorn rebel? Lmao.

That’s the problem Holmez.

The metal and rock world can usually pin point who the OG shock rock savages were ala Screamin Hay Hawkins, Arthur Brown, Alice Cooper, etc., and at least give them credit. But with hip hop that’s not the case.

What’s funny is even stand up comedians argue and debate who did what first or stole who’s joke. lol.

I made this thread because Eminem brought back his Slim Shady persona which hasn't been seen in decades. I thought it was thread worthy

The whole "going hard against cancel culture" in the title was more for clicks.

Listening to his new album, it seems like I'm listening to 2000-2002 Eminem, but it does seem like he is trying too hard to be offensive. It just doesn't work like it used to. But I did enjoy quite a few songs on it.

It's hard to take any rapper seriously at that age. They're all in their 50s. Dre is almost 60. We know they are done hitting switches in the 64 Impala, clubbin it up and actin wild. They could be grandparents and will be soon if not already.

50 year old slim shady clownin on anything is an immaturity and he's simply too old for that. It would only appeal to young people and they are listening to rappers their own age. So it has to appeal to 40-50 year olds who are too mature now to care about clowning on other celebs.

Nah, when he first came into the scene he did things that hadn't been seen before. The problem is these last 15 years or so he just ran out of ideas, he tried to go back to his slim shady persona, but it's nothing new and he's too old at this point. With that said, he is probably the most technically skilled rapper of all time. His word play and rhymes are out of this world.
