He has been the most dominant player during these playoffs and if he does lose in the Finals, it's only cause he played against a superior team. Has only happened once in history, and I think it should happen again. He is the best player on the court. To give it to someone from Boston just wouldn't feel right.

If that's the case, LeBron should have like 8 FMVPs

Title read like a transposed Fultz title.

I happen to agree that if youre going to have this award, it should go to the most valuable player in the series regardless of outcome. Thats how the award is phrased, so thats what it should be.

They stopped doing it that way to personally spite Lebron James, but that’s a different story.

Id personally rather they just scrap the award, I think it’s very awkward to award an MVP of something a team just did collectively at the highest level. Regular season MVP is fine, theres no specific winning moment for the regular season, plus its a huge sample size. You dont need to congratulate a jubilant team right after theyve won a championship together and then say “but the MOST valuable one of you was this guy!” I just find that cringe personally. Let the moment be about the team.

*Obviously with the caveat that when Lebron wins it’s fine.

It should have always been playoff MVP, you at least get a 20 or so game sample size out of that.

Yeah....wouldn't have had a problem with that. In this case, it'll be so obvious since Luka leads the playoffs in points, assists, rebounds, steals, etc.

No one comes close. To give it to Tatum or Brown....yikes. Anyone on Boston can burn you, but there is only one Luka.

I agree that would at least be more sensible than Finals MVP

All mvp awards are childish and dumb

No one needs someone to tell them who the best player was

Should be a public vote tbh and not decided by 11 media members. Imagine how many FMVPs Bran would have by now. He deserved at least 7.

Most people need the championship trophy and MVP trophy to tell them who the best player was. Because most people sure as hell aren't picking who the best player is based on who the best player actually is. Most people assume there is almost a perfect parallel between team results, awards, and player ranking.

What?

Luka was not the best player on the floor in game 1.

Exactly. There is something to be said about performing the best when the stakes are the highest.

I'm not a fan of rewarding players when their team loses because then it could easily devolve into a stat padding endeavor to get the FMVP and save face. Neither should there be a "playoff" MVP for guys to run up the stats playing inferior opponents in the earlier rounds. Winning it all still has to mean everything. All or nothing. If the opponent is superior, get better and come back next year.

I would like to wait until the Mavericks are fully swept to give Doncic Finals MVP. Giving it to him just for one loss seems premature.

to OP's point, it;s quite clear who the best player in this series is. hell, the best player of the entirety of the playoffs has been Luka.

Maybe so but would blubadub Chewy make this thread if Luka was black? I doubt it.

I mean yea..Luka is definitely the best player in the series. Doesn’t mean he’s going to have the best performance in a series as a given.

Jaylen Brown absolutely outplayed him the other night. If that continues, which of course I expect it won’t, then why would Luka be MVP in a loss?

How did Brown outplay him exactly?

Luka didn't have much impact on the game. He was defended well and on the flip side didn't defend well. He couldn't get people their shots. Maybe that's on the coaching but Luka didn't look dominant at all imo. 1 assists and 4 turnovers lol. Didn't shoot particularly well. Brown was very impressive on both sides.

OP made this thread because Luka is white.

How did Brown outplay him exactly?

Locked him down for the most part head-to-head. Made things very difficult, forced several turnovers. Played a great game offensively picking and choosing the right spots and making huge momentum swinging plays overall.

We watched the game. He was better that night.

Gotta give him credit, he's halfway there.
