They will have completed one of the most dominant seasons of all time. 64 win regular season, only 2 losses so far in the playoffs and a potential sweep in the finals.

78-20 overall currently.

Where do they rank of the last 20 years?

Can I make the argument they're the second best TEAM behind the 2017 Durant Warriors?

I’d say they are right there with the 2013/14 spurs. Just a perfectly built team.

Last 20 years?

Probably behind 2017 Warriors & 2013 Heat. 2014 Spurs & 2008 Celtics are debatable. That 2013 Miami Heat team was pretty nasty when they were all healthy, won 27 straight games at one point, but they kinda struggled in the playoffs because of Wade's injury.

Too early. This was the same thing people were saying about the Nuggets last season before the shine came off Jamal Murray.

What happens next year doesn't matter in regards to this 2024 Celtics team and where they rank amongst the last 20 championship teams.

Tough to tell. Their competition overall in the playoffs has been incredibly weak. I would have loved to see them play Denver to get a better idea of their strength.

It's just tough to gauge the true strength of this team when the margin of error is this big vs the competition they've faced.

I'd say probably not as good as the historic numbers would indicate, but considerably better than Tatum haters would give them credit for.

People are going to bring up their astonishingly easy road to the Finals, but from a pure talent perspective, right now, I think you could argue them over anybody with the exception of the KD Warriors over the last 20 years. I would probably rank them.

2017 Warriors
2024 Celtics
2023 Nuggets
2014 Spurs
2019 Raptors

Nuggets definitely get slept on, sure, the 53 wins is nothing to write home about, but they were straight up dominant in the playoffs, none of their series were particularly close.

I might be in the minority on the Raptors, but that team had crazy depth, even if they had to scratch and claw their way to the title.

And yes, I have the right to change my mind if they implode in the Finals :lol

Too early to even think about it with Luka out there and 2 more games to win.

BTW, isn't it crazy how most of this forum went from picking the Mavs to beat the Celtics to now threads being made on how the Celtics are a top 3 team in the last 20 years? :oldlol:

That is dishonest. It absolutely factors into the rankings how a champion fared the year(s) after. First time champions are looked upon more favorably when we can forecast more titles and less favorably when it does not work out that way.

Hard to gauge this. Celtics this playoff pretty much perform on par with a relatively lowly Indy WITHOUT Haliburton when they should've blown them out every game on paper.

Last season Jamaal Murray was pretty much a superstar in the playoff when he should've been much worse on paper.

This ranking shit is out of control.

One title after how many years of choking? After the easiest path to the finals OF ALL TIME?

That’s where it ranks. Up there with bubble title that no one gives a shit about..

Those previous Celtic teams didn't have Portzingus and Jrue, two absolute key players for them.

Not very high. Mean, they beat the Heat, Cavs, Pacers and (maybe) the Mavs. No one picked the Mavs to make the Finals. No one picked the Pacers to get to the EC Finals and no one had the Cavs or Heat over them.

#1 all time on the BORING AF ranking bored/board.

When Porzingis & Jaylen Brown are your most engaging personalities, your team is plain oatmeal. Room temp.

Also #1 on the Easiest path to the finals EVER.
Only rivaled by the bubble ring.

Boo this champion !

When healthy they are an incredible team. Literally starting 5 All Star talents. But with Zingis missing 75% of the playoffs do they survive the West gauntlet?

Their joke path allowed them to be healthy. There's no way Zingis stays healthy facing Denver or Dallas or Minny etc. all back to back. He would've been missing in those series since he was out for the whole 1st three rounds pretty much and that would've made a tremendous difference.

They coasted and load managed their way to the best record in the league, easily. And most of their wins weren't even close so their point differential is actually DE-flated. When a team is this good, you can't look at their regular season. But this group has only been together this year so we can only look at this year's playoffs. Where they haven't beaten a contender and are now playing an overachieving 5th seed.

Combining regular season and playoffs when I look at the small sample size of games that were losses or even close I can nitpick on these things:
- their half court execution isn't great in tight games
- they can become reliant on the 3
- they are much worse when they go against size where KP can't guard the 5

When the above conditions don't apply, they're a modern analytics dream team. Their starting lineup can think, shoot, drive, create for themself, create for others, defend on-ball, play team defense, AND switch all at a level I can't ever remember.

Somewhere like Pistons in 2004.

They're more like the default winner, than a true impressive champion.

Rule changes midseason changed everything for a team like Nuggets. If there were no rule changes, then Nuggets are probably back in the finals and win it.

this is a team that will be viewed better if they repeat. hard to take anything from playoffs when you played one contender.

Too early to talk, they haven't won away and Porzingis is already day-to-day after his injury in game 2.

With 18th Title under Celtics' Belt.

One greater than LAL's 17.

Celtics will become the most celebrated Team in NBA history

Celtics = NY Yankees of NBA.
