Two men, one with a light strapped to his head, got out. A security camera recorded them pulling out bolt cutters. One man snipped several charging cables; the other loaded them into the truck. In under 2½ minutes, they were gone.

The scene that night has become part of a troubling pattern across the country: Thieves have been targeting EV charging stations, intent on stealing the cables, which contain copper wiring. The price of copper is near a record high on global markets, which means criminals stand to collect rising sums of cash from selling the material.

The stolen cables often disable entire stations, forcing EV owners on the road to search desperately for a working charger. For the owners, the predicament can be exasperating and stressful.

I know, read what I just said. Most car companies have had plans of being 100% electric (no gas) way before Biden was in office.

Over the next 20-30 years gasoline will be phased out completely.

It will happen under Trump if he is elected, and it will continue to happen after him too.

I'm an industrial electrician and the small factory I work in draws 2MVar and that's nothing. With the energy water treatment plants draw you can charge thousands of Teslas.

The problem isn't the availability of electricity, but spikes in power drainage from firing up industrial units like huge motors. Also the rise of inverters and vfds creates unwanted signals within the grid.

You know who's one of - if not - the biggest consumers of electric energy in my country? The oil refinery plant.

Point still stands. Bad grid just makes it worse, but charging a Tesla or thousands of them isn't as problematic. Big sudden shifts of loads are. If your grid is at its limit it should be time to invest EVs or not.
