He makes more than Joe Mazzula who just won a chip. While having 0 experience drafting scouting coaching. He also has 0 staff and no plan. What do lakers expect from him? Honestly :biggums:

Lakers have been dysfunctional since Dr Buss died. His kids are incompetent. Lucky for them LeBron decided he wanted to live in LA otherwise they would still be irrelevant.

You're joking but the microscope of the Lakers job AND the microscope of a LeBron team is the most heavily scrutinized coach in the world automatically from day 0. Look, he already is.
That's before he has to even attempt to try to do the job, including coaching LeBron. lol.

And some other star will bail them out when LeBron retires :facepalm
It's sickening how they can get away with a Pistons level front office.

I agree there has always been extra baggage, expectations, and pressures for a Lakers coach.
Plus no matter what you do you will always be in the shadow of Pat Riley and Phil Jackson. Even though if your name is getting kicked around anywhere near one of those guys you would have to be doing pretty well for yourself.

3 made 3 a game 9 points.
4 made FT a game, 13 points
4 layups/dunks, mainly in transition, 21 points
He could do that in his 50’s

He needs to set up a direct deposit that wires most of that money directly to Lebron.
Not because he specifically owes Lebron anything, I just personally think every player and coach in the league should do that.
Bron's earned that respect.

LeBron James' master plan: destroy the Lakers to take over the franchise at a bargain price.

Jesse Buss is the best scout in the NBA. Obviously the lottery picks are out of his hands as a scout but look at his resume starting in his early 20s. Almost all his late first round, 2nd round and many of his undrafted players have had long careers as valuable contributors.

Redick is still going to be a better bargain than Monty Williams.

Based on.. what exactly? So far there's not been a single player that's turned down a supermax.

apparently these are the salaries when doing some googling on the highest paid coaches
Gregg Popovich (San Antonio Spurs) $16 million
Erik Spoelstra (Miami Heat) $15 million
Monty Williams (Detroit Pistons) $13 million
Steve Kerr (Golden State Warriors) $9.5 million
Rick Carlisle (Indiana Pacers) $7.5 million
JJ got 4yrs/32M so with Monty fired he's 5th.

It's a trend in the NBA to raise the pay of coaches with an unstated rationale that if coaches are paid more, they are more respected by the players. The coach will have greater control.
You don't have to pay coaches this much and their impact on the team isn't as much as thought. Look at the Celtics with Udoka and Mazzula; hardly any difference.
Overall, I disagree with the trend, even despite the rise of player salaries, but the teams have massive sums of cash- the additional cost of the coach's salary doesn't put a dent in things.
If you think about how CEO's salaries outside of pro sports have ballooned, there also is scant justification for it. It's a collusion between decision-makers at the top. I'm not making some communist argument, I've very much a capitalist, but these decisions happens when there's some consensus narrative- as there's no objective financial formula for what the leader should be paid.

Why do so many coaches get long contracts if most of them don't even seem to retain their jobs long enough

Lakers job commands a premium since you are basically guaranteed to be unemployed within 2 years.
