The full roster brought back for next year or the cap space they would have if George left and they traded Leonard and Harden (completely made up trade value here) for the 15th pick in the draft for the next 5 years and cap space.

I'm going to guess that the current stars keep them out of the lottery for the next two years vs blowing it up putting them in the top 3 of the draft next season.

It would be a bad business move to blow it up and go into a rebuild this season right before opening a new arena. Which is why I don't think they'll do it. They should try and ride it out without mortgaging their future any further.

They definitely would make more next year hanging onto their guys but how long are people in LA going to care about a team that has decent regular seasons and then their star(s) miss the postseason every year? I am for blowing it up for the simple reason that they are relying on guys that have repeatedly and convincingly demonstrated they should not. They aren't going to get fan support in LA over the Lakers when anyone that has been paying attention knows that Leonard is going to miss a lot of games for load management and then still isn't going to finish a playoff run. To keep him healthy they are going to have to try something extreme like a 30 game regular season. And even after that who is confient he plays the full postseason?

otoh, it's the clips, and they have to be really good to be relevant. Them being 'ok' is like the Knicks being ok. A perpetual joke.

If they really could blow it up, it would be nice, but I can't think of who they would get. Josh Giddey maybe?

No, but you've seen how teams actually do pretty well when they dump their stars for hungry up and coming guys and role players. They have a little burst. Having a 'fun' clip team might be better than a 7th seed clip team. Lemme tellya how much the clips suck. They were a 4 seed and I legit forgot they did that well. I knew they were gonna get scraped in the playoffs. Yikes. I'm not high on PG, tbh. Kawhi was a monster for a few years. Harden has always been cancer. Blow it up. They got WB, too, oh my gosh. I forgot that. I think I had blocked how much of a shitshow their team was.

They could trade Kawhi to get a lottery pick or two.

Houston at 3rd, OKC at 12, San Antonio at 4th and 8th.

Ok, maybe not San Antonio, but Houston and OKC might be interested in getting Kawhi in a weak draft.

I won't say that's impossible because trades happen that don't make sense to me every year. But why would a bad lottery team that is likely rebuilding trade a lottery pick for a flawed star? He's about to be 33, makes 50 mil a year and can't stay healthy. If anyone trades for Leonard it will be a good team that is desperate to compete for a championship but knows they aren't quite good enough. I could see Philly or the Knicks bringing him in and then praying for luck.

Kawhi is the franchise player. They are not trading him, lol. What they really need, is an upgrade on the bigs. Not a value veteran. Their second option needs to be an elite big. Not a "stretch 4". A big that is actually big. Like Sabonis. Make it happen, somehow. :oldlol:

They may well think the Kawhi era is worth continuing but for the last three postseasons he's played in 2 or less games and has a long and unfortunate injury history. He's inarguably not someone you want to count on.

It would make sense for OKC and Houston could have made the playoffs and definitely would with Kawhi and the improvement of their young guys.

Spurs probably want to stay bad for another season though.

The Thunder are also well under the cap. I had not thought of this team, I'll admit. There is still a problem though: Sam Presti is a smart GM. If and when they make a power move for another star they're going to get someone reliable. With their young core they can be patient and continue to build slowly.

I'm not sure how's much of a big picture focus the Rockets have so maybe they do it. There isn't much value in making the playoffs and then losing your best player but if they just want a year or two of regular season respectability they could get involved.

Celtics might have an even more notoriously easy path to the finals next year, with this potential TANDEM INJURY SEASON of Philly’s two best players going down in heartbreaking fashion.

Could you imagine the tension in 76ers fans, all season long, every single time Joel Embellish or Uncle Dennis’s autistic nephew hit the floor ?

Can you imagine the level of soul-crushing injury infamy that could be ? both getting consecutive season ending knee injuries ? Setting themselves up for a great first half of the season, then the potential for the all time most soul crushing injuries EVER.

This here.maybe resign all and give it one more year.considering it's a new building but after that if it doesn't work trade the lot for what you can

I really think trading Kawhi makes the most sense.

He is a superstar when healthy, but Harden showed in the playoffs that he isn't done yet and he will win enough games in exciting enough fashion imo to make people buy tickets?
