It seems he's looking for a situation where he can: 1) Get paid 20-25m; 2) Have a primary/starting role; 3) Have a chance to win a championship. Miami, Sacramento, and both LA teams have shown interest.
What about Denver?
They just lost KCP to Orlando; he signed a 3-year, 66m contract. Supposedly, Denver offered a similar contract but that might just be PR spin. Who knows.
Anyways...
Let's say Denver can offer DeMar 20m. Would you like that fit? You lose three-point shooting, point-of-attack defense, and screen navigation. But you gain size, physicality, shot creation, mid-range shooting, slashing, foul-drawing, and playmaking.
I like the fit. And here's how I'd fit him in to mitigate any defense/lineup concerns:
Start him alongside Murray, Porter Jr, Gordon, and Jokic for the first 6 minutes. Then, stagger him so that he plays with the bench guys where he can be the primary offensive scorer and have the offense build around his shot creation.
Once the fourth quarter comes around, play him with the starters for the final 6-8 minutes. The defensive issues and lineup concerns would be mitigated at this point in the game when players are tired and a step slower, and the pace of game deadens.
His extra size and bulk compared to KCP would provide some strategic value in the clutch when switching. And his mid-range shooting, playmaking, foul-drawing, post-up, and iso-game add significant value late in the game.
