View Full Version : How about DeMar DeRozan in Denver?

It seems he's looking for a situation where he can: 1) Get paid 20-25m; 2) Have a primary/starting role; 3) Have a chance to win a championship. Miami, Sacramento, and both LA teams have shown interest.

What about Denver?

They just lost KCP to Orlando; he signed a 3-year, 66m contract. Supposedly, Denver offered a similar contract but that might just be PR spin. Who knows.

Anyways...

Let's say Denver can offer DeMar 20m. Would you like that fit? You lose three-point shooting, point-of-attack defense, and screen navigation. But you gain size, physicality, shot creation, mid-range shooting, slashing, foul-drawing, and playmaking.

I like the fit. And here's how I'd fit him in to mitigate any defense/lineup concerns:

Start him alongside Murray, Porter Jr, Gordon, and Jokic for the first 6 minutes. Then, stagger him so that he plays with the bench guys where he can be the primary offensive scorer and have the offense build around his shot creation.

Once the fourth quarter comes around, play him with the starters for the final 6-8 minutes. The defensive issues and lineup concerns would be mitigated at this point in the game when players are tired and a step slower, and the pace of game deadens.

His extra size and bulk compared to KCP would provide some strategic value in the clutch when switching. And his mid-range shooting, playmaking, foul-drawing, post-up, and iso-game add significant value late in the game.

Another upside is that it takes pressure off Jamal Murray to be the secondary shot-creator. You can play Jamal off-ball as a catch-and-shoot/movement shooter because he's a great three-point shooter. His durability issues are also a concern, whereas DeMar is known for his durability.

Denver seems to be trying to save money. Offensively he would be a good fit and I'm sure Jokic works with anyone but it doesn't matter if they aren't going to join the bidding.

would hate to see it. jokic would be a great fit for him because he can definitely cut and get easy points and rhythm with that level of playmaking from jokic.

glad it cant happen

Yeah, itd be a great move on the court. But theyre not taking on that type of salary, nor are they even allowed to without making a trade that defeats the whole purpose.

Who is giving up two starters for Porter? Would either guy in such a deal really be worth starting?

He's ending up with the kings.

I like it! Primary playmaking center and lots of shooting and screening actions. Kind of like Denver.

Yeah Derozan and Sabonis should fit together nicely.

Light the beam!

Denver will have picks to trade soon and hopefully for Denver mpj shows some upside this season. I was on the mpj for Jerami grant idea but then they lost kcp

He's 26. At some point we should stop talking abide upside and just say a guy is who they're going to be. And he's not a bad player but he is generally just a tall shooter and average starter.
