Or is he less effective than those digits suggest?

How good are the Kings now?

I think a good comparison to help you put his production into context would be MJ.

If you put MJ in the modern game he would look very similar to current Derozan. Solid, quality production, but not like... in "elite" territory.

So, hopefully that helps.

He's all right. Around Pascal Siakam level.

I wouldn't say he's less effective than the numbers he puts up... just ran into better players. In his prime he led teams to the Conference Finals. Ran into Lebron and his colluded star teams. Most players lose to that.

Guys like tmac and Mitch Richmond never even got out of the 1st round and people praise them. So I don't see a problem with Derozan.

Yes, his stats say he's better than he is. He's probably best suited as a #3 option, but instead has joined the Kings which is a scoring by committee team (similar to Miami) that doesn't have a true #1 option.

I don't see the Kings as much better than before. To win it all with this scoring by committee adorably you need elite defense which the Kings don't currently have.

He's fine...nothing special. Frankly he's as good as Dame but he was a better teammate and didn't go for the glory. George and DeRozan are not going to change any power balance in the NBA. He's a stop gap to keep the Kings from falling to the bottom of the West.

I think so. He has a good combination of mid-range shooting, slashing, foul-drawing, and playmaking that makes him a capable on-ball scoring threat and overall shot creator. His numbers in isolation and post-up plays have been elite of late. Situationally speaking, he has significant value in the clutch.

Needs to find a way to make his game more off-ball though. This is the biggest thing about his game that I'm going to be watching in Sacramento. He doesn't catch-and-shoot his mid-range shots like Durant can and does. Likes to dribble into them and find some body contact.

Jimmy Butler has a somewhat similar offensive profile: great playmaker, slasher, and foul-drawer. Not as good of a shooter though; however, Jimmy's offensive game is way more off-ball.

yea but I think he's a little better than rest of this thread. Offball is an issue but he's gotten better there and i think he can be your 2nd option, has the volume with efficiency and a good enough playmaker. He just cant be your 2nd best player because of defense. the stats dont account for his negative impact on defense. for kings he's replacing barnes who lowkey wasnt that good a neutral defender so they can still be average defensively with right lineups

He's good in the regular season but absolutely fvcking atrocious in the playoffs.

In the playoffs he was constantly doubled and bums like demarre Carrol and pat Patterson bricked everything couldn't make the defense pay. So ĥe continued to get hounded.

In the 2016 Cavs Raptors series their 3rd leading scorer averaged 7 ppg. Having to face Lebron Kyrie and Love putting up beyond double figures. What's he supposed to do while being totally outmatched? Not only 1st option vs 1st option vs Lebron by a lot but also having way worse help. Jordan would've lost with that shit.

2017 and 2018 were a lot of the same story. He didn't shoot well at all but was having the kitchen sink thrown at him and his teammates left wide open.

On Torontos best team when they faced Cleveland in 2018 they had JR Smith shooting 77% from 3 and Korver 56%. Absolutely white red hot. While his teammates couldn't hit the broadside of a barn from range. Clevelands shooters would make you pay for doubling Lebron. Derozans would totally bail you out.

It's almost impossible to beat that.

You don’t have to pretend he’s not dogshit in the playoffs just because he reminds you of Kobe.

This is completely right

The entire defense would always key in on him and force him to pass when in a rhythm

Those raps teams sucked on offense in the playoffs. Not demars fault
