His screens look amazing. He would've had like 20 points if anyone on the Grizzlies knew how to throw an entry pass.

Look at how much space his screen creates for Scottie Pippen Jr.

I think there's a good chance Zach can match Steven Adams' screening from day one. The game footage looks good so far. Adams was the best screener in the league IMO. He was #1 in the league for per 36 screen assists per game in '22 and '23. Here are his numbers from his Memphis' seasons:
2021-22: 5.5 screen assists (4th in NBA); 12.0 screen assist points (4th in NBA); 26.3 minutes per game
2022-23: 5.6 screen assists (1st in NBA); 12.6 screen assist points (2nd in NBA); 27.0 minutes per game
Adjusted numbers (minimum 621 minutes):
2021-22: 7.5 screen assists per 36 minutes (1st in NBA); 16.4 screen assist points per 36 minutes (2nd in NBA)
2022-23: 7.5 screen assists per 36 minutes (1st in NBA); 16.8 screen assist points per 36 minutes (1st in NBA)
If he's Steven Adams with better offense, absolute home run pick for the Grizz

Looks solid on both ends, but seems his vertical is not great.
That hook shot he has looks like a weapon though.

Grizzlies are absolutely loaded with medium to high level talent. Even their depth pieces are loaded with sleepers: Aldama, LaRavia, GG Jackson, Kennard. These guys are starter quality on some teams.
If they can stay healthy and not have Morant go off the rails, this could be their time to make some actual noise.
I hope Edey pans out, his game is refreshing. :applause:

Kessler is like 6 foot 7 and Edey got some of his buckets on defensive breakdowns. Need to see more.

He didn’t look bad but remember it’s summer league. There have been plenty of summer league gods that never made it.

Kessler is 7 feet tall are you retarded?

I like Edey, but Adams had a toughness that I don't think dude will ever have. I still remember dude who said when they were boxing out for a FT Adams grabbed his arm and squeezed it haha. I don't think Edey is that kinda player, and surprisingly that stuff matters.
I DO think he can develop a J, and I think he can be deadly in the post, but they really did expose him in the NC game. They got him moving to the side and just lobbed over him. That's a big weakness as everyone in the NBA can do that, and he was not good enough to score well 1 on 1 vs a similarly talented prospect.
Still, I hope he becomes a good bench guy. I'd love it if he could be a starter. Big fan, but I was thinking the NC game would be when he proved his doubters wrong, and he didn't. He definitely is a hard worker, so like I said I see a J coming, but I dunno if he will ever overcome his problems with lobs. Maybe he can work on deflecting the passes or something haha.

Cant wait to see how wrong all the draft analysts were about this guy.
He clearly has a role in the NBA.

Seems so.
He's quite clearly a mobile big that can run the floor. Seems like he has zero jumping ability though.

Guy that big really should avoid jumping. Work on positioning instead.

Kessler is a legit 7'0.25” barefoot, 7'1.0” in shoes, 260-270 pound NBA center. One of the best defensive centers in the league who was getting comparisons to Rudy Gobert as a rookie. The average NBA center is 6'11" in shoes and 240 pounds last time I checked. We've seen Edey do well against big centers like Kessler, Lively, Kalkbrenner, Clingan, and more.

I disagree. Zach is one of the most physical basketball players ever, and that's not hyperbole. He attributes his physical play to his background in ice hockey. Adams is only 270 pounds while Zach is 300. Guys bounce off Edey like they're nothing.

Zach's jumping favors comparably the many NBA bigs. It's just that because of his size, he doesn't need to jump that high often. Why leave the floor if you can block guys without having to jump?
Zach Edey 2024 Combine:
Standing vertical leap: 26"
Max vertical leap: 31.5"
Donovan Clingan 2024 Combine:
Standing vertical leap: 25.5"
Max vertical leap: 29"
Rudy Gobert 2013 NBA Combine:
Standing vertical leap: 25"
Max vertical leap: 29.5"
Young Steven Adams could jump a little more than these guys:
Steven Adams 2013 NBA Combine:
Standing vertical leap: 28.5"
Max vertical leap: 33"
DeMarcus Cousins was a woeful jumper:
DeMarcus Cousins 2010 NBA Combine:
Standing vertical leap: 23.5"
Max vertical leap: 27.5"
Hassan Whiteside, Deandre Jordan, and Brook Lopez have very similar numbers to Edey:
Hassan Whiteside 2010 NBA Combine:
Standing vertical leap: 27"
Max vertical leap: 31.5"
Deandre Jordan 2008 NBA Combine:
Standing vertical leap: 26"
Max vertical leap: 30.5"
Brook Lopez 2008 NBA Combine:
Standing vertical leap: 27.5"
Max vertical leap: 30.5"
Compare that to Tacko Fall, who really can't jump:
Tacko Fall 2019 NBA Combine:
Standing vertical leap: 22"
Max vertical leap: 26.5"
Another guy some try to compare Edey to is Pavel Podkolzin. Don't know why, as it's a stupid comparison; doesn't go beyond just the size thing.
Pavel Podkolzin 2003 NBA Combine:
Standing vertical leap: 19.5"
Max vertical leap: 22.5"
He looks to be so big that his feet and ankles will deteriorate very quickly though.
He was the most durable guy in the entire draft IMO. One of the most durable players over 7ft ever. Hell, maybe for any position. Missed one game in his entire college career and it was due to illness. Played huge minutes and shouldered a gargantuan offensive and defensive burden and didn't break down at all.
You never know but there's nothing to suggest his body will break down. He's proportionately built in a way guys that tall usually aren't. Came to basketball late and played soccer, hockey, and baseball growing up, so he avoided overuse injuries that are so common in basketballers who specialize too early. And the wide swath of sports played as a youth helped develop a well-rounded athleticism.

Cool, yeah I was surprised he fell as low, considering the clips I'd seen.
I could see him filling a similar role as Lively.
Zach has that world-famous Toronto toughness to him
I expect him to bully Team USA bigs when they encounter him

Kessler is good in drop coverage near the rim. Great shot blocker not one of the best defensive centers in the league. Hes in summer league for a reason

Edey is a very big physical presence. He uses his body to score and push people around for rebounds. He does not use his body to put people on their back. Adams would.

I think that sort of play gives you the extra 20% you need to be a 'big big' in the NBA now. Adams without his physicality is not nearly as good of a player.
It would be cool to see Edey do that stuff, being real. I hope he does. I haven't seen it yet.
Edit: I really do believe this is coming, though. He's a worker and he has a touch. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/2PZbhi_Xh1g

these american franchises are rigging it for their home-country
warriors doing the same thing with wiggins who would also be a defensive asset
