LeBron James was voted the best player on the court by his peers during Team USA training camp, per @joevardon & @sam_amick

“James, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer who is months away from the start of his 22nd season, was voted the top national team player in camp in a straw poll of Olympic camp participants conducted by The Athletic.”

Him being respected by his peers doesn't bother me. I don't need players to share my views. Besides, one of the main reasons I don't believe James is the best player in the league or even really worth considering as such is that if he was asked to carry an average supporting cast to 50 wins and the second round or further and they needed 75 or more games from him to do so he would break down. He doesn't have the durability he used to. He's 40. But to the players on Team USA he's just out there practicing hard, establishing himself as the leader. They don't care or even think about whether or not he can still carry a team through an 82 game season.

A much better judge of BITW would be what you do with a good capable team around you, since thats what decides titles.

So the best player on the planet can have an AllNBA and all-D teammate along with average roleplayers and consistently lose in the first round after having to make the play in tournament? James doesn't have overwhelming stats, is known to take breaks on defense, and can't lead the Lakers to a top 6 record in the West or the second round. This is all very understandable for a player his age. James will be easily the greatest 40 year old we have ever seen. But compared to the best players in the game today he just doesn't meet that standard. The Lebron James that belongs in the greatest ever argument is the guy that dominated both ends of the floor, could play 80 games if you need it from him and always made the Finals. Current Lebron is not as explosive athletically and has to be given rest. Then once he makes the playoffs he isn't going to dominate. He needs at least one guy to take over the offensive duties he used to handle and likely more help even than that. All of this is understandable but it means he's not as good.

Jrue Holiday has 2 rangz, Embiid's never even made it past the 2nd round.
