Fascinating.

And then of course there's "6'5" Dejounte Murray :wtf: who appears to be shorter than "actually 6'1.5" Russell Westbrook.

ESPN and BballRef straight up just adding four inches to Murray's real height.
It's weird how the league and the media just flat out lie about player heights and not only do people not care, but most people are gullible enough to believe it. If the league said Wembanyama was 8'5 most people would probably just repeat that and never even question it.

NBA players are usually shorter than their listed height.

Jordan is actually 6'4 1/2
KD is a legit 6'11 possibly 7 feet tall. You can tell by his team USA photo.
AI was 5'10
It's all over the place.

I don't know but Westbrook looks like an action figure, got damn look at those forearms and hands, no homo, dude would win arm wrestling competitions.

All of that said, Russell's shoulders are clearly higher up so he'd have a higher standing reach if their arms are the same length, which is really the 'height' that matters in basketball. How long your neck is or your forehead.
Standing reach is what should be measured and referred to.
Why teams cant make this information consistently reliable and available, I just dont understand.

Not many people care about it.
The teams themselves have the real data so that's all that matters to them.
Height can be deceiving in basketball. While it's an advantage to be tall, other factors like wingspan, standing reach, and athleticism play a significant role in a player's performance. Maybe we should focus more on these aspects rather than just height.

Westbrick may be getting measured in three inch heels but I'm sure that most players are not.
Westbrook is 6'3 in shoes
Far cry from 6'4 barefoot, or 6'5 in shoes. Mj and kobes height.

Correct.
Westbrook has clearly higher shoulders than Djokovic, and assuming WB's arms are at least equal in length if not longer, his effective basketball height is definitely taller than Novak. These guys are basically the same height but Djokovic height is more about neck length and head shape, which arent very material to basketball.
Standing reach is the thing people should reference, instead of height. High shoulders and long arms are gonna have more influence on your rebounding, shot blocking, shot making etc than the height at the top of your head.
That said, it's just so bizarre and unnecessary to me that the NBA is so cavalier about players heights being lies. Why would you ever refer to someone by their height in shoes? That's not a thing. Nobody every lists their height in a real world situation by what they are in shoes. Why wont the league just tell people what each player's actual height is?

Dirk and KG were 7 foot as well but said to be an inch or so shorter. It's because they didn't want to play center which is what 7 footers are expected to do.
Guards all have their heights inflated by an inch or 2.

Look how big WB arms and hands are and how wide is shoulders are. He totally dwarfs that dude.

I think it’s fair to say Russ is 6’3(his listed height) or even 6’4” if Djokovic is 6’2” based on those photos. Two inches just doesn’t make that big of a difference in photos between taller people.

and more....
Some athletes have "hunch' posture. Because of shorter shoulder bones. Hence, resulting in narrow, non-broad chest.
like MJ always had the "hunch" leaning forward from rookie year. Younger, teenage Kobe had that "slight hunch" too. Probably still growing.
If you have natural 'hunch' you never stand straight upright like Pippen, Clyde and Vince who had proper posture. longer shoulder (clavicles) bones with chest sticking out normally. MJs chest never stuck out like Pippen and Vince in his entire career.
Only when you measure them against the scale, do they really stand 'upright' with their neck extended and erect back and both arms laterally.
with slight hunch and stooped neck posture, athletes can easily loose up to 1/2" inch in height. and this can be deceptive.
